Oct, 2003 : Switch and Data Expands to San Jose Facility

📅 - Switch and Data (switchanddata.com -> equinix.com), a provider of neutral interconnection and colocation services, said yesterday it has expanded its MetroPAIX Layer 2 public peering fabric into their facility at 524 Stockton Avenue in San Jose, California. The expansion to the San Jose site adds 10,000 square feet of space for customer growth and provides access to almost 140 public peering participants in seven Bay Area locations, the company said.

"The addition of Switch and Data's San Jose facility to the Bay Area MetroPAIX is the logical next step necessary to continue to serve our customers' growth needs," said Mario Galvez, vice president of marketing for Switch and Data. "The introduction of a Layer 2 MetroPAIX switch fabric will provide a new interconnection option in our San Jose site."
According to Switch and Data, the expansion is an integral component of its growth strategy and an important step in delivering peering over the San Francisco Bay Area peering fabric.
"We continue to receive requests from third-party colocation facilities throughout the country for our MetroPAIX offering," said Jim Weller, vice president of business development for Switch and Data. "Colocation providers understand the value of our Internet exchange solutions. They see how our switch fabric can provide an additional draw to their facilities and new revenue opportunities. In return, each new colocation provider adds to the mix of customers, which makes our MetroPAIX offering even more valuable."
The MetroPAIX distributed peering network has a combined customer base of over 200 unique ISPs, ASPs, content providers and enterprise networks.
