📅 - Data center operator and Internet exchange provider Switch and Data (switchanddata.com -> equinix.com) reported on Wednesday that it has launched its Financial Services Practice, a set of solutions developed to provide the volume and low-latency needs of electronic trading market.
According to the press release, the new offering will "provide comprehensive data center solutions for pre/post trade service providers, the buy side, and sell side communities in the equity, options, futures and currency markets."
Though the press release specifically mentions the demands of SEC regulations for trading markets, the Financial Services Practice seems to be more a matter of services being optimized to the needs of a certain set of clients.
"Regulatory changes and fragmented liquidity have driven an explosion of market data volume and the need for highly secure data center space," says John Panzica, vice president of Switch and Data's Financial Services Practice, quoted in the press release. "Switch and Data's new practice understands this demand and helps customers develop custom solutions to meet their ever-growing low-latency connectivity, space and power needs in North America's leading financial centers."
Switch and Data says its Financial Services Practice was developed to help financial services companies deploy infrastructure with special consideration given to a list of challenges that includes speed and scale, ecosystem access, reliability and cost effectiveness.
The "ecosystem access" features refer to the access to hundreds of fiber providers, carriers, managed service providers and financial extranets available through the company's facilities.
According to the announcement, Switch and Data has added more than 250,000 square feet of data center capacity, and has applied SAS 70 certified processes across its footprint.
