Dec, 2003 : DellHost Deal Sets Off Customer Concerns

📅 - Sprint's announcement on Monday that it had sold its DellHost (dellhost.com) Web hosting operation has some customers complaining that they should have been notified sooner, according to a report by CNet's News.com.

The company issued a memo to customers Monday, informing them that the DellHost business, which Sprint acquired from Dell in 2001, had been sold to managed hosting provider VeriCenter (vericenter.com).
According to CNet, the memo informed customers of Sprint's intention to exit the data center hosting business. "As a result, Sprint will no longer continue to offer or operate the DellHost portfolio of services," said the letter.
Customers were informed that as of December 20, their hosting services would be provided by VeriCenter. Sprint said VeriCenter would likely contact customers with more information in the days that followed.
Some customers of DellHost were reportedly bothered that they had been kept in the dark about the sale, even receiving assurances from Sprint that the company's plans to exit the Web hosting business would not affect them.
Sprint said it was unable to inform customers of the possible sale while the negotiations were taking place, adding that it has been in communication with customers since announcing the sale.
The DellHost name, which Sprint was able to use through a seven-year licensing agreement, will not be used by VeriCenter, according to Dell.
