📅 - According to the January 2004 installment of the Netcraft (news.netcraft.com) Web Server Survey, published late last week, Microsoft gained slightly in Web server market share on leader Apache for the first time in several months.
Microsoft increased its share of the Web server market from 20.87 to 21.00 percent, an increase of 0.13 percent. The increase represented a rise in aggregate totals from 9,596,571 to 9,675,979. Apache, on the other hand, saw its share drop from 67.43 to 67.38 percent. The decrease represented a drop in aggregate totals from 31,005,690 to 31,040,922. SunOne saw its market share drop by 0.07 percent, while Zeus's share remained steady at 1.63 percent.
In addition to the market share numbers, Netcraft reported last week that InetU and Cable & Wireless were the most reliable hosting company sites during the month of December, with neither site returning any failed request from the researcher's five measurement points.
According to Netcraft, InetU's site has ranked among the top three performing sites for the past three months, this month finishing ahead of Cable & Wireless because it delivered a faster average connection time.
In addition to its research reports, Netcraft announced on Monday that it had released a new service designed to help banks and other financial organizations track occurrences of their name, brands, trademarks and slogans on the Internet in an effort to help those companies identify sites that may be attempting to conduct fraud, identity theft or phisihing attacks using their names. Common Internet attacks on banks include attempts to trick account holders into giving away account details, fraudulent association with the bank as part of a scam and trademark violation.
