Apr 12, 2004 : Northeast Data Vault Serves Marathon
📅 - For the fourth year, Northeast Data Vault (nedatavault.com) will be the official data centerservice provider for the Boston Marathon, for which they are expecting six million page views over the busiest six hours of race day.
Northeast already maintains the Boston Athletic Association's Web site (baa.org), but on race day the company's data center in Marlborough becomes home to additional servers that collect and disseminate real-time information about the progress of the race's 20,000 registered runners.
Friends, fellow runners, and race fans throughout the world visit the B.A.A.'s Web site (bostonmarathon.org) on race day, Northeast Data Vault reports.
Last year it said it sourced more than 60 megabits per second of Internet traffic during the race - about 5 million Web pages overall, a number Northeast Data Vault expects will jump to six million this year.
"We have only one opportunity to get this right, so reliability is vital. We work with our technology partners to deploy significant infrastructure to collect, aggregate, and disseminate data on race day," said John Burgholzer, Technology Coordinator for the Boston Marathon. "As the hub of our efforts, Northeast Data Vault's facility provides the reliability and network capacity that we need to distribute our data around Boston and worldwide using the Internet."
