May 5, 2004 : NetNames Offers International Domains

📅 - Domain registrar NetNames (netnames.co.uk) announced on Wednesday that it is now offering domain name registration in Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and Korean, languages that do not carry the standard ASCII character set (a-z).

The UK-based registrar said offering domains in languages that contain non-ASCII characters would allow companies to more effectively target international markets by giving them the opportunity to purchase domains that are more recognizable to native speakers. The languages include Arabic, Hebrew,Chinese, Japanese or Korean, as well as all Latin characters, Cyrillic and Greek.
"Organizations who are currently operating in foreign markets, or who may have plans to do so in the future need to consider international domain names as an integral part of their overall domain name strategy. For the first time in the history of the Internet, companies can now easily and cost-effectively register domain names on a common standard in multiple languages making it easier for people to find their products and services online," says Jonathan Robinson, director of business development at NetNames. "NetNames has a proven track record in registering and managing domain name portfolios globally and can offer companies expert advice on which domains they should own and where."
NetNames said it is offering registration of international domain names at the same price as standard domains in each of the available suffixes.
NetNames is a subsidiary of UK-based Web hosting and Internet service provider NetBenefit plc (netbenefit.co.uk -> netbenefit.com).
