Nov 10, 2005 : Tier 1 Web Hosting Show Wraps Up
📅 - Tier 1 Research's (tier1research.com) Hosting Transformation Summit 2005 at Bally's Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada came to a close on Wednesday after a busy two-day schedule.
Andy Schroepfer, president of Tier 1, opened the second day with a few more comments about the strong growth potential of the industry, noting that VeriCenter and Tucows reported strong earnings earlier in the week. He also announced that next May Tier 1 would hold its first annual software as a service conference, a testament to the emergence of this sector of the hosting space. Larry Lozon, vice president of data center hosting services at EDS, presented the second day's keynote. His address highlighted one of the key transformations underway throughout the industry - the reverse of the infrastructure explosion driven by automation and virtualization technologies and customer demand for utility-based IT services. A panel in the afternoon moderated by the Web Host Industry Review, provided a change of pace with a look at the differences between shared and dedicated hosting in the consumer and small business segments of the hosting market. The panel included Warren Adelman of Go Daddy, Simon Anderson of Affinity Internet, Robert Miggins of Server Beach and Thomas Strohe of Intergenia and SERVER4YOU. The discussion was spirited and even humorous at times with panelists exchanging differing opinions on subjects such as marketing, pricing and consumer education. Hosting Transformation Summit 2005 attracted a strong cross-section of senior management eager to discuss the state of hosting and its future while putting faces to names - a mark of hosting industry events. An international flavor was also present. Akmin Technologies, the developers of the SiteGalore site builder, flew a team of three over from India and Intergenia came from Germany by way of its offices in Bulgaria. The conference's largest group was the Microsoft team, which was busy talking up the latest enhancements to its hosting solutions and its aggressive industry roadmap. Preceded by HostingCon in June, Hosting Transformation Summit 2005 was the second event of the year to focus exclusively on the hosting industry. Hosting was also well represented at the two ISPCon events and vendors such as Alabanza held user conferences while EV1Servers invited some of its partners for a mix of business and pleasure. The many events are a sign of the vitality and continual growth of the hosting industry.
