) announced on Wednesday it has recently switched its hosting operations to 100 percent renewable energy, through a combination of wind and solar power.

"We've had a very serious environmental and progressive business commitment since we began," says Vladislav Davidzon, executive director of Portland-based ThinkHost. "Over the last 12 months, we've also made further efforts to minimize any negative impact our Web hosting business has on the environment - after all, you're either part of the problem or part of the solution - and we've chosen to be the latter."

The company says the transition process has been relatively seamless and that ThinkHost clients won't have to pay extra for their services. ThinkHost's infrastructure and geographical distribution prevented it from installing any solar panels or construct wind turbines to supply its needs, relying instead on green energy certificates.

ThinkHost performed an extensive audit of its electricity use, including everything from its server consumption to the power used in staff offices around the globe, before acquiring the necessary green energy tags to offset the non-renewable consumption.

ThinkHost says it will also assist other businesses in understanding environmental principles through their new blog and forum - blog.thinkhost.com and forums.thinkhost.com.
