Feb 23, 2006 : IBM Steps Up SaaS Partner Efforts
📅 - Computing giant IBM (ibm.com) announced on Thursday that it had introduced new resources designed to help software developers design business applications to be delivered as on-demand services.
IBM says it will provide access to technical architects, free online educational courses and new sales incentives to help partners transition their businesses to the service delivery model.
The company says it will being offering a 10 percent referral fee to any partner that submits a lead to an application provider that results in a closed deal. IBM will also provide partners with access to its sales force in order to better facilitate those leads.
IBM also announced new strategic relationships with Apptix, Success Factors and Corente, companies that deliver their applications as services using IBM's open technology infrastructure and support from IBM services, which provides the secure hosting environment.
According to IBM, the company has more than doubled its channel network in less than a year, now providing software as a service through more than 100 partners, reaching tens of thousands of customers and millions of end users.
"Making the transition to an Internet delivery model unfolds new market opportunities, but can pose a technical challenge for software makers accustomed to a client server model. It requires major changes underlying software architecture and in sales and marketing strategies, alterations in revenue streams and a cultural change within an organization," says Buell Duncan, general manager, ISV and developer relations at IBM. "We are dedicated to the success of our business partners, helping them understand the technical and business benefits of transitioning to a software as a service model, find new ways to manage change and support their customers while lowering the costs of doing business to maximize profits."
