Feb 22, 2006 : Microsoft Free Web Hosting Takes Off
📅 - According to reports released this week by Internet research and reporting group Ipwalk (ipwalk.com), Microsoft has seen a flood of interest in the week following the launch of its Office Live beta.
Microsoft's Office Live beta (officelive.microsoft.com) a new service launched last week, offers free Web hosting and domains as well as collaboration tools ultimately intended to be paid for, though currently offered for free.
According to Ipwalk, the service generated 4,000 new domain names in the first five days of service. Microsoft says more than 100,000 people have signed up for the test.
"Considering that," says a report from Ipwalk, "the growth of Office Live is probably only limited by the rate at which Microsoft is sending out product registration keys to their beta members."
Domains for Office Live are currently being registered through domain registrar Melbourne IT (melbourneit.com.au).
