Feb 24, 2006 : Web Host iWeb Opens Data Center

iweb.com logo📅 - After experiencing growth of 88 percent during 2005, Montreal-based Web hosting provider iWeb Group (iweb.ca) announced on Thursday that it plans to open a new data center in a building acquired by the company in Saint-Leonard's industrial park in Montreal.

The company says the 15,000 square foot building is located in a 37,000 square foot area with potential for expansion. The data center will occupy approximately 90 percent of the new building's total area.

IWeb says that in addition to providing space for existing and future clients, the new facility will offer the company a means to provide geographic redundancy. The second building acquired by iWeb in two years, the new center brings the company's footprint to more than 25,000 square feet, with the potential to host almost 20,000 servers.

The first phase of construction on the new facilities is scheduled for June, and includes an investment of more than $1.3 million. The company says the installation process will involve three yearly phases, costing approximately $13 million. When the second facility is completed, the two are expected to produce a total of $36 million annually.

"In less than 2 years, we have exceeded all our goals and we are now using close to 90 percent of our new data center's 5,000 square foot area," says Martin Leclair, Director of operations of iWeb. "Our services stand out because our data centers are well located and also because iWeb packages include technical characteristics that clients appreciate. This new center is critical in supporting iWeb with its remarkable expansion. It is also a key element in consolidating our leading position in the dedicated server Web hosting market."
