📅 January 19, 2009 - Web hosting provider iWeb (http://iweb.com) announced on Monday that it has expanded its network by more than 500 percent in the past year, growing from 9Gbps to 50Gbps, to meet the bandwidth demand of its customers.

"The fact is that many companies today are using web-based technologies to keep IT spending under control, or to reduce spending," says Eric Chouinard, iWeb's president and CEO. "IT budget restrictions mean that the companies we work with are outsourcing their infrastructure to iWeb faster than planned in order to meet their targets."

The network has a total of nine major telecommunications carriers into iWeb's network, which uses BGP routing to provide high performance and reliability.

Many of iWeb's customers have web-based applications such as software as a service, which requires a lot of bandwidth.

As a result, Martin Leclair, iWeb's president of products and technology, says iWeb's "capacity is scheduled to increase again shortly and continually throughout the coming year," which indicates that "everything is going online."

The Montreal-based company, who will publish its financial results later this week, will soon be rolling out marketing campaigns to promote related bandwidth and dedicated server hosting services.

Since becoming a public company in 2004, iWeb has been steadily growing to become "one of Canada's largest IP hosting firms," according the press release.

Last year, the company made a series of major changes in an effort to expand its operations.

In February, the company increased its term loans facility to receive an additional $1 million of total credit with the Bank of Montreal, and in August, signed a $22 million financing agreement with Goldman Sachs Credit Partners.

In March, iWeb launched its new corporate identity and coinciding website and opened its new head office in the Nuns' Island area of Montreal, as well as restructured its management in October.

Listed on the TSX Venture Exchange, iWeb provides hosting services and IT Infrastructure services, including dedicated server hosting, colocation and web hosting services to more than 17,000 customers in 145 countries.
