Courts in Russia ban LinkedIn with Twitter and Facebook Possibly Following
📅 - The business social network LinkedIn was recently banned by a Russian court. This was done due to the fear of data security within the country. This was done with amendments to the Personal Data Laws in Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin also banned government offices in the country from using Microsoft products. He's afraid these products may lead to a data security issue.
Microsoft owns LinkedIn, which is the reason for the ban. Only about five million users are found in Russian. The courts also threatened to ban any companies storing data of Russian citizens on servers not Russian-owned and located within the country. This could impact Twitter and Facebook, as well.

📅 - 90 Percent of Data Center Traffic Will be Cloud by 2020 - By the year 2020, cloud data center traffic will cross the 14 zettabytes. That is a huge increase, 262 percent, from 2015. This information comes from the Cisco Global Cloud Index, which was released Thursday. The report also projects that 92 percent of all workloads being processed in the cloud by 2020.

📅 - Major Stake of United Internet to be Sold - United Internet has announced they will sell a major stake in their web hosting business, which is headquartered in Montabaur, Germany. The company is a major player with many global brands including WEB.DE, GMX, 1&1, Arsys, Fasthosts and mail.com. The total number of customers tops 16 million combined.
The deal is reportedly worth $497 million, which is the price Warburg Pincus has agreed to pay. Warburg Pincus is headquartered in New York City and was established in 1966. They also have a presence in Brazil, India, China and Europe. They will acquire a 33% stake in United Internet's Business Applications Unit.

📅 - Stocks Rally, But Many Tech Stocks Left Out of Rally - After the election of Donald Trump, the stock market bounced back in every sector benefiting from a larger economy, except for technology. Stocks in the computer and software areas suffered losses and were a part of the FANG block, which stands for Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google.
Each of the FANG stocks dropped by at least 1.9% and the Nasdaq 100 dropped by 1.6%, which is the most since September 9th.
Some are concerned with the possibility of policies from Trump on overseas trade, which is one area US technology companies thrive. However, others don't think it's about the election, considering the group has surged by about 11% in 2016.

📅 - Payment Request Integration Announced by WP Engine - WP Engine recently announced integration with Payment Request. This is an Open Web payment API designed for use by ecommerce websites. WP Engine specializes in WordPress web hosting and was established in 2010. They are headquartered in Austin, Texas with offices in San Antonio, San Francisco, London and Limerick.
The new Payment Request tool is designed to help with desktop purchase conversions. It's set up to allow online stores to use the WP Engine E-commerce Toolkit for WooCommerce and provides faster and easier payment features for desktop users.

📅 - New Relic Infrastructure Launches to Give Cloud Performance Insights - New Relic has two announcements: A new Digital Intelligence Platform and Infrastructure, both of which will allow businesses to have better insights, full-stack visibility, and analytics “at any scale.” The newly launched New Relic Infrastructure will provide additional visibility of cloud and hybrid infrastructure performance.
With the insights and information available from the platform, teams will be able to work together more cohesively when resolving issues. It will also be helpful for “…improving customer experiences by giving each team member the same end-to-end view into applications and supporting infrastructure,” according to the New Relic team.

📅 - Largest Wind-Power Deal Signed by Microsoft for Wyoming Data Center - Microsoft recently announced the largest wind-power purchase when they made a deal to buy 237 megawatts of capacity in Kansas and Wyoming. The two projects providing the power are Black Hills Corporation's Happy Jack and Silver Sage wind farms in Wyoming and Allianz Risk Transfer AG's Bloom Wind Project in Kansas.
Along with the wind power, Microsoft made new arrangements with Black Hill's utility in Wyoming. These arrangements will provide backup generators for the data center as a secondary source of power. This allows the utility to avoid needing to build a new power plant.
