Feb 18, 2009 : Core NAP Completes Type I SAS 70 Audit

📅 - -- Meeting industry security standards, Texas data center solutions provider Core NAP (corenap.com) has successfully completed a Statement on Auditing Standards number 70 Type I audit, demonstrating its commitment to safeguarding customer data.

With a recently renovated 11,000-square-foot Austin facility supporting a full range of premium online solutions, according to the company's announcement, Core NAP "has grown into the best connected data center in central Texas," helping customers build and manage their enterprise private networks, connecting multiple locations securely and cheaply.

Considered by many as an entry level audit, the SAS 70 Type I defines the standards used by a service auditor to assess the reliability of a company's internal controls and its handling of critical business data. Originally intended for the financial services industry, SAS 70 certification is often a prerequisite for maintaining critical data for businesses and is a component of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, which was passed in response to a number of major corporate and accounting scandals including those affecting Enron, Tyco International, WorldCom, and others.

Unlike the Type II report, which involves exhaustive and testing of the organization's controls over a minimum time period of six months, this report only covers one day in time.

"We're proud of achieving SAS 70 compliance because it demonstrates our commitment to protecting our customers' sensitive data," Core NAP chief executive officer Kenneth Smith said in a statement. "Ongoing SAS 70 auditing will assure our current and future clients that we are serious about constantly reassessing and improving our security and compliance with best practices."
