Feb 13, 2009 : Darland To Build Omaha Data Center

📅 - Darland Construction (darland.com)has been awarded a construction management contract for a 64,000-square-foot, tier IV, enterprise-class data center, a joint venture betweenhealth-care provider Alegent Health (alegent.com) and data center operator CoSentry (cosentry.com).

According to Midwest Real Estate News Reports and Darland, the Tier IV facility, located in Papillion, Nebraska, called the "Midlands Data Center," will be located on Alegent Health's Midlands Hospital campus. It will store Alegent Health's medical records, digital imaging for cardiology and radiology, as well as the data and equipment of other CoSentry clients.

The data center building will be two stories tall, each accommodating two 5,000 square foot raised floor data suites. The Midlands Data Center will also provide about 13,000 square feet of office space for support staff.

With steel and precast concrete walls and roof, the Midlands Data Center will be able to withstand 250 mph winds. The facility will also provide reliability and access to records in the event of a power outage or natural disaster.

Designed by Altus Architectural Studios (altusstudios.com), construction on the Midlands Data Center began in January. Morrissey Engineering (morrisseyengineering.com) was selected to provide mechanical, electrical and technology engineering to the project. The project is on schedule for delivery to the owners this fall.

Omaha-based CoSentry is a regional data center operator, providing business resiliency solutions at locations in Omaha, Kansas City and Sioux City.

Medical data facilities often represent the height of data center technology, with 99.999 percent uptime often being too unreliable and zero tolerance of any possible data breach, as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requires data managers to keep patient information under strict lock and key.

With roughly 90 percent of its clients in the health care industry, in December, Arkansas-based hosting provider Integris Tech (integristech.com) opened a new data center for its managed hosting and colocation services network, the Integris Colocation Network (otherwise known as ICON), which includes the only true data-rated fireproof server vault in the region.
