📅 - Network-neutral data center and Internet exchange service provider Switch and Data Facilities Company (switchanddata.com -> equinix.com) has opened the first phase of its 163,000 square foot, 26 MW data center in North Bergen, NJ, its largest site to date.
According to Switch and Data's Tuesday announcement, the completed site will bring the company's total New York metropolitan data center capacity to more than 250,000 square feet. Its completed area data centers include 8th Avenue and Hudson Street sites in New York, linking more than 300 networks, making it one of the most densely interconnected networks in North America.
Demand for Switch and Data's new site has been strong, leading technology, content and financial services companies including FXCM.com, Intermedia and Limelight have already signed on as customers in North Bergen. A leading US commercial center, New York is also the and an important aggregation and distribution center for the information that powers the world's financial services industry, which has in part driven high customer demand for Switch and Data's New York data center and Internet exchange services.
"Switch and Data facilities give our customers access to a critical mass of network and bandwidth providers across the broadest footprint of key communications hub markets in North America," Switch and Data senior marketing vice president Ernie Sampera said in a statement. "We are expanding our capacity in markets like New York Metro to support our customers' increasing need for data center space, interconnection, power and cooling to aggregate and distribute global Internet content and mission critical enterprise applications."
The North Bergen site can supply more than 200 watts per square foot of power and cooling capacity with full N+1 redundancy for its UPS, generator and cooling infrastructure. It will also also offer its PAIX Internet exchange service in the North Bergen site, which provides a simple and cost effective way for Internet service providers, telecommunications companies and enterprises to peer their IP traffic. Switch and Data also operates out of 34 sites in the US and Canada including Dallas, Buffalo, Chicago, Miami, New York, Northern Virginia, San Francisco, Seattle and Toronto.
