Aug 25, 2008 : CommVault Joins The Green Grid

📅 - Data management software and service provider CommVault has joined The Green Grid (thegreengrid.org), a global organization committed to improve data center and business computing energy efficiency.

Open to IT professionals with an interest in addressing global energy consumption issues, The Green Grid was created in early 2007 to develop industry-wide standards, measuring methods, processes and new technologies to improve the energy efficiency of data center and business computing.

According to the announcement from New Jersey-based CommVault, its Simpana 7.0 software suite "helps customers implement sustainable 'Green' data center strategies," demonstrating CommVault's commitment to developing more energy efficient data centers. Simpana includes application modules for Data Protection, Archiving, Replication, Resource Management and Searching capabilities.

As a member, CommVault said it will collaborate with The Green Grid community to develop best practices that increase storage efficiency, eliminate redundant copies of data, and reduce power, cooling and floor space requirements.

Earlier in the month, another environmentally conscious firm, ethernet infrastructure services provider Extreme Networks (extremenetworks.com -> hostinger.com) joined The Green Grid. Earlier in 2008, the company's BlackDiamond 8800 switch was named one of the most efficient modular Ethernet switches in the industry by independent research firm the Tolly Group (tolly.com).
