📅 - A managed services company based in the UK said this week it is hosting live streaming of the proceedings from the National Assembly for Wales.
eLINIA (elinia.com -> rackspace.com), which provides some standard hosting services along with some of the more popular hosted applications such as hosted Exchange and Sharepoint, says Assembly staff and members of the public will be able to watch plenary sessions and committee meetings, and to access a searchable archive of debates.
The broadcasting equipment within the assembly will be set up and operated by UK broadcast service provider Barcud Derwen, says eLINA, and will reportedly produce an average of about 35 hours per week of content.
"We've been the host broadcaster for National Assembly Wales since 1999," says Barcud Derwen new media manager Rhun Roberts, "and see huge potential in extending our service to a new audience, via the internet. Working with eLINIA has allowed us to concentrate on what we do best, in the knowledge that the service we deliver has a robust, flexible foundation."
eLINIA says it will support the service with its Gigabit Internet infrastructure, providing the kind of flexibility that can accommodate the spikes in traffic that can occur during key debates.
Content will be tagged digitally by Barcud Derwen, which will enable users to search by topic, date and Assembly member, and follow links back to transcripts of the meetings.
The live streaming is available at the website www.senedd.tv.
In May 2007, the National Assembly for Wales launched a new website, which is also hosted by eLINA. The company says the site's features include virtual tours, video biographies, petitions, discussion forums and a constituency locating map.
eLINIA said in Jaunary that it had begun offering carbon-neutral services out of the Equinix data center it operates from in Slough in the UK.
