📅 - Web hosting firm Dialtone Internet Inc. (dialtone.com) announced said today it would open a data center in the United Kingdom. The new data center, located in West London, will be used to expand Dialtone's European customer base. Dialtone already has data centers in Mexico and Florida, and customers located in 80 countries worldwide. The new center will open in late December and serve Dialtone's current 330 European customers while increasing the company's European presence. "The opening of the London data center will represent a major milestone for Dialtone Internet," said Alvaro Albarracin, Dialtone's CEO. "It will provide us with the necessary infrastructure to service our growing international client base. As the global Internet and e-commerce markets continue to mature, our U.K. data center will help ensure that we are able to keep pace with the demand for our hosting services." The new center is a continuation of a series of expansions for the company; Dialtone recently completed an expansion on its Florida data center to accommodate new clientele in Latin America.

📅 - SMBs No Strangers to Outsourcing, Yankee Group Finds - Research firm The Yankee Group (yankeegroup.com) released information this week indicating that more than half of small to medium sized businesses (SMB) use outsourcing for their IT needs to some degree. The information comes from the Yankee Group SMB Networking and Infrastructure Study of October 2001. The study found that while over 51% of SMBs rely on a third party for IT needs, under 14% do so exclusively. The rest rely on a mix of in-house IT staffing and outsourced consulting.
