👈 Official Responses: 0) announced yesterdayits selection as the only Web hosting company included in Computerworld'sTop 100 Emerging Companies for 2002. Rackspace today also announced it isthe subject of a new Tier 1 Research report, in which the company is calledthe "pioneer of profitability."

Computerworld (computerworld.com) attributes Rackspace's success to the company's focus on customized, dedicated servers and its own brand of "fanatical" customer support. The company was also recognized for its ability to reach profitability this year while many big hosting players filed for bankruptcy and smaller companies were acquired. "Today's emerging companies face a cooling economy and an uphill battle in 2002," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. "The Computerworld Top 100 Emerging Companies for 2002 - those most capable of transforming adversity into opportunity through innovation - will be the ones to watch."
Andrew Schroepfer, president of Tier 1 Research, agreed that Rackspace isone of the few Web hosters to successfully emerge in 2001 with a profitablebusiness and enormous opportunity. "Rackspace actually deserves credit asone of the first providers of managed hosting, but a substantially moreimportant milestone tops the company's list of successes - profitability.Rather than pursuing growth at any cost, the company has consistently growna high quality business, serving thousands of customers while not losingsight of profitability or customer satisfaction. As a result, the company ispositioned to be one of the few survivors in this still evolving industrythat is not currently a multi-billion dollar firm like IBM," saidSchroepfer.
Schroepfer also praised Rackspace's "unique approach," which he saidincludes its ability to deliver on its "fanatical support" promise and getcustomers online within 24 hours, and concludes, "Rackspace has the formuladown for profitable growth."
