eBay Selects Sprint for Back-up Infrastructure Robert B. Marks
📅 - eBay (ebay.com), one of the Internet's largest auction and trading sites, announced today that it would be using Sprint's E|Solutions (sprint.com) for its back-up systems. This will allow the online auction house to have a back-up site located outside of the Santa Clara Valley.
This step is the end of a year-long search for a server site outside of the Bay area. According to May Abbott, Vice President of Operations for eBay, the search was necessary to ensure site availability for eBay's customers.
"Selecting a data center outside of the Bay Area is one more step in securing our platform and putting additional redundancy in place," Abbott said.
While specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed, Abbott said that eBay was attracted to Sprint by the manageability and cost-effectiveness that the company had to offer. Sprint, a telecommunications giant with customers in over 70 countries, offers a global Tier-1 Internet network, providing high speed access for its customers. This was perfect for eBay.
"Sprint E|Solutions is witnessing a dramatic upswing in customers who demand quality, security, scalability and a Tier-1 brand that stands for long-term survivability," said Keith Paglusch, President of Sprint E|Solutions. "We are confident that our solution will provide the environment needed to help support the engine of eBay's growing business."
