📅 December 4, 2001 - Keynote Systems (keynote.com) yesterday unveiled customApplication Performance Management services to help manage the performancecomplexities of Web-based applications. The slew of new packaged offeringsincludes SLA Management Services, Web Site Audits, and customizedperformance reporting.

Keynote's Custom APM Services include SLA Management Services, Custom DataViews and Web Site Audits: SLA Management Services provide a collaborativeand consultative approach to the SLA development process, assisting thecustomer with every stage from conceptualization of the appropriate SLAmetrics to ongoing validation. SLA Management Services are available inthree versions:
SLA Lifecycle - Assists with SLA development design, reporting andvalidationSLA Reporting only - Provides automated SLA reports designedaccording to customer specificationsSLA Analysis only - Reviews design of existing or proposed SLAs andmakes recommendations
Custom Data Views provide custom code development to satisfy customers'advanced reporting requirements beyond MyKeynote-level reporting. The CustomData Views are provided through a file or custom Web interface. CommonCustom Data Views include Internet Health Reports, Hosted Web Site Auditsand Specialized Email Reports.
Web Site Audits investigate the performance-related impact of Web sitedesign and infrastructure. The audits provide statistical analysis ofmeasurement data and provide key recommendations for optimizing performance.Three types of Web Site Audits are offered:
Diagnostic Web Site Audits - Diagnoses the cause of complexperformance problems that the customer cannot resolve including identifyingperformance bottlenecks in Web site infrastructure including DNSinfrastructure, Internet connectivity, Web site design, Web serverperformance and system performance. The customer receives detailed graphs,tables and analysis and provides key recommendations for improvingperformance based on data analysis and interpretationComparative Web Site Audits - Evaluates the relative performance andavailability of customers' Web site as compared to major competitors' sitesor any target URLs. Provides a relative benchmark for performance using arepresentative Keynote index and a 40 - 50 page statistical analysis ofperformance including detailed graphsTrending Web Site Audits - Provides industry performance ratingusing a 5-star system that compares the customer's site to the applicableKeynote index. This audit shows the performance and availability trends ofthe customer's Web site over monthly, quarterly or annual periods andestablishes a baseline for future performance and reliability

📅 Dec 5, 2001 - SMBs No Strangers to Outsourcing, Yankee Group Finds - Research firm The Yankee Group (yankeegroup.com) released information this week indicating that more than half of small to medium sized businesses (SMB) use outsourcing for their IT needs to some degree. The information comes from the Yankee Group SMB Networking and Infrastructure Study of October 2001. The study found that while over 51% of SMBs rely on a third party for IT needs, under 14% do so exclusively. The rest rely on a mix of in-house IT staffing and outsourced consulting.
