📅 - Further automating its disaster recovery solution, Veritas Software Corporation (veritas.com) today announced it has completed the acquisition of The Kernel Group Incorporated (tkg.com -> hostinger.com), a privately held software company based in Austin, Texas, for an undisclosed amount. TKG is the developer of Bare Metal Restore, a solution designed to fully automate system recovery of Windows and all major UNIX platforms in the event of data corruption or hardware failure.
Research firm Meta Group estimates that just 36 hours of downtime could costa typical financial services firm up to $567 million in direct revenuelosses. Bare Metal Restore automates and accelerates the full systemrecovery capabilities of Veritas NetBackup, and delivers a common,enterprise-wide recovery solution to minimize downtime. This eliminates theneed for personnel to reconfigure disk hardware and reinstall the operatingsystem, tasks which could lengthen outages and increase the possibility ofuser error. "Bare Metal Restore is an important component of a total disaster recoverysolution that includes backup and recovery, clustering and replicationmanagement," said Kris Hagerman, senior vice president, strategicoperations, Veritas Software. "Leveraging TKG's leading software productsand proven engineering talent, Veritas Software will further integrate thisadvanced technology with its storage management software to satisfy therapidly maturing disaster recovery requirements of our enterprisecustomers."
