Jan, 2002 : Ebone to Manage Travel Site for Virgin Holidays
📅 - Ebone, a division of Global TeleSystems, Inc., announced that it will host, manage and maintain Virgin Holidays' online travel site (virginholidays.com). While Virgin Holidays, UK's largest tour operator, already produces a comprehensive, 24-hour online service for booking flights; checking hotel, check-in, and travel information, Ebone (ebone.com) plans to improve the site via their broadband network.
"Since many customers now use the web to book holidays with us, it has become core to our business. Were customers to stop using the site because it was out of action or slow, that would seriously impact our business," said Nigel Smith, administration and systems director for Virgin Holidays. "We need absolute confidence that the website is performing to its maximum, 24/7. With its high-quality service, experience and reputation in the market, there was little doubt that Ebone could deliver."
Virgin will use Ebone's recently launched Managed Hosting Service in order to ensure the site is constantly online and fast. This incorporates broadband network capability to cope with peak demand, dual servers for fault tolerance, content management, maintenance and real-time performance monitoring and reporting.
"Within the travel industry, the Internet is one of the critical channel of communications, revenue generation and customer service. In many cases it has replaced the traditional high street outlet and even the phone," said Leo McCloskey, Ebone's Senior Vice President of Marketing. "But the challenge for many travel organisations is to deliver guaranteed performance, reliability and security all of the time. Ebone has the experience to deliver this advantage and our customers know that we will remain at the leading edge of web hosting services and technology."
