Mar 13, 2002 : Genuity Supports Sun ONE Portal

(genuity.com), a leading Internet infrastructure services and e-business network platforms provider, announced on Tuesday that it has been chosen by technology giant Sun Microsystems (sun.com) to provide a variety of hosting and network services for the new information portal (insidesunone.sun.com) built to support Sun ONE (Open Net Environment).

Genuity says its Black Rocket hosting platform has been deployed to host InsideSunONE, the company's Web Services information portal for Sun ONE. The new information portal, says Genuity, runs on the iPlanet Portal Server software infrastructure, and features news about Sun's activities, articles by industry experts, Q&A discussions, industry polls and links to other relevant sites on the Web.
In addition to supporting the site's complex distributed environment, Genuity says it will provide a variety of managed security offerings, including virtual private network and firewall services, allowing Sun to operate its systems as a single integrated secure network.
Genuity says its in-depth understanding of Sun's architecture and technology needs allowed it to work with Sun to move from concept to deployment in six weeks. Mapping out the site's architecture in a short time frame, Genuity's services organization was able to provide the high degree of reliability and availability required by the site through an architecture consisting of multiple clustered configurations across three data centers.
In addition to being selected by Sun to provide services for the portal, Genuity also received Sun's SunTone certification for its implementation and management services that support Black Rocket Hosting. The infrastructure for the Black Rocket platform was previously certified, making this Genuity's second SunTone certification.
"Today, customers are requiring significant assurance that that their service providers can securely handle their business needs," says Jim Freeze, Genuity's senior vice president, chief marketing and strategy officer. "This latest seal of approval further validates that Genuity customers are getting the most reliable, secure hosting solutions."
