Mar, 2002 : Genuity Unveils New IP-Based Storage Solution

📅 - Genuity Inc. (genuity.com), an Internet infrastructure services and eBusiness Network Platforms provider, today announced the availability of Black Rocket Storage, a suite of storage solutions that enables companies to access critical data during outages. The new suite supports business continuity by combining storage devices and management, Internet access services, and optional managed Web hosting services.

Black Rocket Storage, which runs over Internet protocol (IP), consists of a number of services including Remote Data Replication, On-Demand Capacity and Remote Site Failover. These services can be used standalone, or as part of Genuity's Black Rocket hosting platform.
Key to the Black Rocket Storage is Remote Data Replication--an IP-based mirrored storage solution offered by a service provider. This service places transaction data in two data centers, and on one or more physically separate storage systems using EMC's SRDF Symmetrix Remote Data Facility software. By outsourcing storage and remote data replication companies avoid costs associated with data center build-out, and can better leverage circuit costs by further utilizing existing Internet access lines to transport data.
"We have taken our years of experience in managed hosting environments and parlayed that into a suite of services that includes data replication over IP. Black Rocket Storage provides customers with valuable business continuity options," said Jim Freeze, Genuity's senior vice president and chief marketing and strategy officer.
Information storage and mirroring capabilities for Genuity's Remote Data Replication Service are provided by EMC, using its Symmetrix Enterprise Storage Systems and SRDF business continuity software, over Genuity's Tier 1 caching infrastructure. Computer Network Technologies' (CNT) Edge 1000, is also a key component of the service, enables companies to transmit data to widely separate locations more cost-effectively than other existing technologies.
The Remote Data Replication Service begins with an assessment and individually designed storage recommendations provided by Genuity experts. Genuity then conducts ongoing monitoring and maintenance for the remote EMC Symmetrix information storage systems, which are housed in one of Genuity's secure data centers.
Black Rocket Storage includes: scalable properties for special events; remote site failover, which ensures a company's Website availability in times of maintenance, such as software and server upgrades, and emergency; and managed hosted storage. Customer's set up a pay-as-you-go account. Genuity is offering a 30-day trial for business interested in the service.
