Mar, 2002 : AT&T Latin America Allies with Brazil's Canbras
📅 - AT&T Latin America Corp. (attla.com), a facilities-basedprovider of business communications solutions, announced that its subsidiaryin Brazil has extended its coverage and network capillarity into one of thecountry's major industrial regions through a strategic agreement signed withthe Greater Sao Paulo area subsidiaries of Canbras Communications Corp(canbras.com.br). Additionally, through the Canbras Group's network usage agreement with TVA (tva.com.br), a provider of communications services in Brazil, AT&T will be able to increase its capillarity in the City of Sao Paulo. Canbras Communications, through its subsidiary Canbras Group, holdsmore than 175,000 broadband customers in the Greater Sao Paulo area.
"With this strategic alliance in place, AT&T Latin America is now able todeliver its high-bandwidth and secure customized solutions to ABCD Paulistaand Baixada Santista - two of Greater Sao Paulo's premier industrialdistricts - and further increase our reach and capillarity in the City ofSao Paulo," said Marco Northland, AT&T Latin America vice president ofmarketing and business services. "This agreement will not only expand ourreach and allow us to capture new business, but it will also minimize ourleased lines expenses in this part of the country."
By using the Canbras Group's and TVA's combined 6,000-kilometer SDH opticaland coaxial network, AT&T will be able to access an estimated 700,000potential corporate customers currently reached by these networks. Thecompany also expects to reduce the time needed to activate services and costto access customers with low additional network investment. AT&T LatinAmerica will compensate the Canbras Group for capacity as customers areactivated.
Brazil's ABCD region (Sao Bernardo, Sao Caetano, Santo Andre and Diadema),which is home to the country's automotive industry, accounts forapproximately 5% of Brazil's GDP; Baixada Santista is home to the country'smain petrochemical companies and largest seaport.
