Oct 3, 2002 : Primus Canada Wins Major Data Contract

📅 - Telecommunications firm Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc. (primustel.ca) announced on Wednesday that it has been chosen as the premier provider of Internet transit by London And Regional Global Network (LARG*net).

LARG*net, says Primus, is a not-for-profit organization focused on connectivity in the London, Ontario area. The LARG*net contract, and a new long-distance service contract with the University of Western Ontario, together are valued at approximately $3.9 million Canadian.
Through the deal with LARG*net, Primus Canada will provide access to most of LARG*net's membership, including colleges, school boards, government organizations, hospitals and other public and private organizations in London, Ontario and the surrounding area.
Primus says LARG*net's existing Internet backbone has been connected to Primus Canada's backbone through an OC-3 fiber optic cable. Primus Canada developed a customized Internet solution to meet the needs of LARG*net's members, providing LARG*net the ability to separate member traffic into different logical circuits and tailor Internet access to each of its members.
"The LARG*net Operation's Committee saw PRIMUS Canada's proposal as the best fit for the LARG*net membership in terms of the price and the value PRIMUS offers," says Debbie Jones, executive director and chair of the Operation's Committee. "From evaluation to integration, PRIMUS Canada's experienced and knowledgeable staff mitigated risk, delivering a seamless transition to the new service. LARG*net is pleased to work with a supplier who is responsive to our needs while delivering a highly-competitive service."
