Dec 9, 2002 : Springboard Secure Through Major Storm

📅 - North Carolina-based data center and Web hosting company Springboard Managed Hosting (springboardhosting.com) announced on Friday that it suffered no downtime through the ice storm that closed most North Carolina businesses through the loss of phone lines and power supplies.

While thousands of area businesses lost productivity as a result of the storm, Springboard says the Web sites, applications and intranets of its more than 160 customers were safe and secure, running completely uninterrupted.
Several customers, says Springboard, used the company's network operations center and disaster recovery center to keep their businesses moving forward.
"As an online gaming business, we've got hundreds of thousands of customers around the world who pay to play,? said Phillip Hall, general manager of iEntertainment. "If the website is down we're literally out of business. And like most every business in Cary and RTP, our offices have been without power and Internet access. With one phone call we were operating our business out of the Springboard facility the same day. That's what happens when you partner with a locally owned and operated company.?
At Springboard's Cary facility, says the company, monitoring equipment detected a commercial power loss at 3:30 am Thursday, and switched to battery power while its diesel generator started running.
"During any power outage, our facility is designed to stay on the generator until the power has been restored and has stabilized for 30 minutes," said Jack Tackett, Data Center Operations Manager at Springboard. "All in all, we ran off the generator for about 24 hours. We keep 2,900 gallons of fuel on site, which will allow the facility to run for 72 to 96 hours without refueling, depending on the load."
