📅 January 6, 2003 - Integration software provider webMethods Inc. (webmethods.com) announced on Monday that the webMethods integration platform was named the Web Services Product of the Year by Developer.com.

webMethods says it delivers the industry's only comprehensive, Web services-based integration platform allowing companies to build Web services without the need for resource-intensive coding.
According to webMethods, Web services are vital to the company's efforts to help organizations lower the cost of integration by using industry standards within the webMethods platform. The company says it was an early adopter of Web services, building its platform on a service-based architecture from its inception. As Web services have gathered industry support, webMethods has continued to push the development and adoption of their standards.
"Winning the Web Services Product of the Year award further validates webMethods' technology leadership and vision for Web services-based integration," says Andy Astor, vice president of Enterprise Web Services, webMethods, Inc. Voting for the award was conducted among readers of Developer.com, Gamelan.com and CodeGuru.com. The webMethods integration platform was chosen over competitive offerings from IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Sun Microsystems and others.

By doubling the memory in its 32-processor p690 Regatta server from 256GB to 512GB, IBM increased its speed measurement from 403,000 to 428,000 transactions per minute. This is a multiple fraction faster than the 423,000 from HP's 64-processor. The TPC test measures the performance of a server handling simulated database transactions such as inventory validation, orders placements and payment recording.
