Jan, 2003 : Avecho states one in 200 U.K. e-mails viral

📅 January 3, 2003 - According to statistics released today by anti-virus software vendor Avecho (avecho.net), approximately one in every 200 e-mails sent in the UK during 2002 contained a computer virus. This has doubled from figures in previous years.

The cost to the UK business market of a single new virus attack exceeds £2 billion in repair, lost time and revenue. The average cost to the small to medium sized business is more than £800 for every infection.
The ratio of viruses in e-mail traffic has grown alarmingly despite huge investment in anti-virus technology and according to the established anti-virus vendors, is set to continue.
Avecho claims to be the world's first anti-virus company to offer absolute protection from e-mail viruses. The UK based firm offers both anti-virus services to businesses and server products for enterprises.
