Jul, 2003 : Overture, Knight Ridder Digital Sign Search Contract
📅 - Overture Services, Inc. (overture.com) announced today it has reached a one-year agreement to provide Knight Ridder Digital (kri.com/digital) with its search products. Under the terms of the agreement, Overture will be the exclusive provider of both paid placement and Web search results to Knight Ridder.
Overture's top paid placement search results will appear on Knight Ridder Digital's Web sites.
The remainder of the search pages will serve results that using Overture's Web-wide search capabilities acquired from the Web search unit of FAST.

Knight Ridder Digital develops and manages 32 Web sites, including the sites for the Miami Herald, Philadelphia Inquirer and San Jose Mercury News.

On July 14, Internet portal Yahoo! announced it had reached a definitive agreement to acquire Overture for a stock and cash deal worth a combined $1.63 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter this year.
Both Yahoo! and Overture have recently acquired assets related to search technology. Earlier this year, Overture purchased Altavista, a popular search engine. Late last year, Yahoo! purchased search technology firm Inktomi.
Knight Ridder Digital develops and manages the Internet properties of the newspaper publisher Knight Ridder.
