Nov, 2003 : C&W, ManagedStorage Team for Data Protection

📅 November 28, 2003 - Cable & Wireless (cw.com) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with ManagedStorage International (MSI), a provider of outsourced data protection and storage management services, to provide data protection services to its Web hosting customers in the UK. Under the agreement, MSI will install and manage a data protection infrastructure at Cable & Wireless' Swindon and Park Royal data centers, allowing it to deliver backup and restore services as part of its managed hosting portfolio.

"By working with MSI, we are able to provide our hosting customers with a premium backup offering managed by the industry's leading storage management company," said Denis Mulhall, director of customer service operations UK for Cable & Wireless. "The customers in our UK data centers can be assured that their data is backed-up and protected on a daily basis."
According to C&W, the services are customizable and come with a Web-based portal for storage environment management.
Cable & Wireless said pricing for the services would be lower than the cost of developing an in-house solution.
"Our agreement with Cable & Wireless is proof that companies around the world are continuing to realize the need to properly protect their company's assets against a potential loss," said Tom Sweeney, president, CEO and chairman of MSI. "It was also apparent to Cable & Wireless that through working with MSI it can offer its customers an improved portfolio of data protection services."

📅 Nov 26, 2003 - IDC Report Shows HP Leading Server Shipments - Hewlett-Packard (hp.com) said on Wednesday that, for the sixth consecutive quarter, is the leader in worldwide server unit shipments, according to figures released today by research and analysis firm IDC (idc.com). According to IDC, 30.6 percent of all servers shipped are from Hewlett-Packard.
