Sep 17, 2004 : Northeast Data Vault Upgrades
📅 - Data center operator Northeast Data Vault (nedatavault.com) announced on Friday that it had recently completed a significant network upgrade at its Marlborough data center in support of the company's growth.
Among the upgrades are new redundantly-configured Juniper Networks M-series routers, deployed at the core of the data center, where they connect on one side to NEDV's Internet providers and on the other to NEDV's internal data center network.
Additionally, NEDV deployed redundantly-configured Cisco Catalyst 3550-series switches internally in the data center network, providing connection points for NEDV's data center customers. An additional 65 Mbps of Internet connectivity was installed. The Juniper routers can each deliver up to 6.4 Gbps of throughput.
"Improved performance, higher reliability, security capabilities, and cost-effectiveness were the goals for our upgrade program," says Ken Bliss, director of engineering at NEDV. "We evaluated a number of alternative vendors and found the Juniper routers substantially faster than other routers in their class, and they efficiently handle our traffic loads. They are also particularly effective at handling malicious activity like denial of service attacks, which can interfere with delivering customer traffic reliably."
