Jul, 2002 : MIT Picks Genuity for Expanded Internet Access

📅 - Enterprise IP networking service provider Genuity Inc. (genuity.com) announced on Monday that it has been selected by leading research university the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to provide increased Internet access bandwidth.

Genuity says the new service, an Internet Advantage OC-12, is in augmentation to MIT's existing OC-3 line from Genuity.
The Internet Advantage service, says Genuity, provides MIT with connectivity through Genuity's Tier 1 backbone, monitored and maintained round-the-clock by the company's technical staff. The new OC-12 service, along with the existing OC-3, will allow MIT to grow to the equivalent of more than 500 T-1 lines.
"The selection of Genuity's Internet Advantage OC-12 service is a key step forward for us as both the university and the Internet continue to grow," says Jeffrey Schiller, MIT network manager. "Genuity's high-speed backbone and reliable network operations center ensure a reliable high performance Internet connection for MIT."
Along with the additional bandwidth, the combination of the two lines will provide the school with multiple paths for redundant Internet connectivity.
"Genuity and MIT have a long relationship dating back to our work together on pioneering the design and deployment of the ARPANET, the precursor to the Internet," says Jim Freeze, senior vice president, chief marketing and sales officer at Genuity. "We are pleased to continue to foster our relationship by providing MIT with the Internet access bandwidth it needs to meet the changing landscape and demands of today's higher education institutions."
