Jul 15, 2002 : IBM Launches Enterprise Storage Server

📅 - Technology giant IBM (IBM.com) announced on Monday that it has introduce a next-generation enterprise storage server with considerable database and transaction processing power and self-managing and self-healing technology features from IBM's Project eLiza.

Equipped with IBM's Copper Microchips and 2-Gigabit-per-second data transfer rates, the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server (ESS) Model 1800 and 800 Turbo option, deliver superior system throughput and performance. The system, says IBM, is code-named the ?shark.?
According to IBM, the new model is designed to provide ESS customers with data transaction processing performance; ?smart? software technology designed to allow IT systems to manage and heal themselves automatically; database performance for data warehousing and business intelligence; a 50 percent increase in data back-up capability over the previous model; and improved remote copy performance for recovery and business disruption.
"Our new ESS sets a new standard for performance that builds on IBM's commitment to delivering storage products loaded with technology innovation and leading with open industry standards," says Linda Sanford, senior vice president and group executive, IBM Storage Systems Group. "The fact that our customers have placed over 10,000 Enterprise Storage Servers at the heart of their e-business infrastructures confirms that we made the right choices when the product was first introduced less than three years ago."
