Jul 24, 2002 : RealNetworks Debuts Helix Media Server

📅 July 24, 2002 - Internet media delivery company RealNetworks Inc. (realnetworks.com) announced on Monday that it has begun shipping its digital media delivery server the Helix Universal Server.

The Helix Universal Server, says RealNetworks, lowers the cost of digital media delivery, supporting every major digital media format, including RealAudio, RealVideo, QuickTime, Mpeg-2, Mpeg-4 and Windows Media, while enhancing delivery performance by delivering 10,000 concurrent audio streams on standard hardware, a 100 percent increase over the RealSystem 8.
"Today is a watershed day for Internet media delivery. For several years customers have been asking us for a universal solution. Today, we are delivering on that longstanding dream with the Helix Universal Server," says Rob Glaser, founder and CEO, RealNetworks, Inc. "By enabling network operators, enterprises and content owners to consolidate their infrastructure onto a single platform, Helix Universal Server provides the foundation for the future of the entire industry."
According to RealNetworks, the Helix Universal Server delivers more flexibility and extensibility than any other digital media server available, with support for more than 55 media types. Broadcasters will benefit from advanced server features like live stream convergence, error correction, unicast and multicast splitting and broad OS support.

(ibm.ca) announced on Thursday that it has been chosen by e-health solution provider Ware Solutions to host its online claims processing system ebill.ca (ebill.ca), and help in the delivery of IT solutions to the healthcare industry. IBM says its technology allows Ware's solutions to provide the timely online exchange of patient information between care providers, Ministries of Health and insurance companies. 📅 Jul 25, 2002 - F5 Announces Third Quarter 2002 Earnings - Internet traffic management provider F5 Networks (F5.com -> hostinger.com) announced its earnings for the company's third fiscal quarter 2002 on Tuesday, in line with preliminary results announced on July 8. The company reported a pro forma net loss of $1.3 million, or 5 cents per share, on pro forma revenue of $27.3 million. The results were a slight improvement over the loss of $1.8 million, or 7 cents per share, on revenues of $27.1 million reported in the previous quarter. The company says its small growth in revenue reflected strong sales in North America as well as continued improvement in the company's European Business, which was offset by weak performance in Japan.
