😞 We've had HostMonster for over a decade. Within the last year, we have received numberous emails about our domain being infected. After paying for SiteLock that they were upselling, we received another email about another domain of ours. Again and again they kept telling us one by one that our sites are infected and that we need to purchase SiteLock or otherwise they will take all our sites offline.
It's very disappointing to be with a provider for so long without any issues and now they are having nothing but issues.

😉 I have been with hostmonster for 15 years and recently came on hard time. The renewal option only allowed me to upgrade to the most expensive pro version which I had to pay 1 to 3 years for. After contacting customer service, I was able to buy just one month at $22 instead of $11 it would have costed me per month by buying a entire year. But then, they also made me pay for a $17 coupon (that they just made up) that would have applied to the yearly fee. So my total host price for one month was nearly $50. Free hosting in other places.

😠 I had a BASIC VPS and move manually to a ENHANCED VPS because they did not tell me they have an automatically upgrade. From the beginning ENHANCED has problem with the email configuration, sql goes down several times per day, and I could not install other important domain and the accounting software. Then I asked for a upgrade to PREMIUM VPS. and Hostmonster said they have a problem to upgrade and it will resolve it. After 10 days and having a lot of problems with de current VPS, Hostmonster did not resolve the problem. Each day the same, it said: "We are working on it.". Its customer service STINKS!!!

HostMonster was a long-running American hosting brand connected with Matt Heaton, the same entrepreneur behind Bluehost. The brand belonged to the classic budget-hosting generation, with its origins usually placed around the late 1990s. HostMonster became especially known for simple Linux shared hosting, affordable entry-level plans, cPanel management and beginner-friendly website tools.

HostMonster is now an inactive standalone hosting brand. The domain hostmonster.com redirects to Bluehost, and HostMonster customers have been moved into the Bluehost environment. By 2021, HostMonster was no longer taking new customers as a separate provider, with the brand effectively absorbed into Bluehost.

The old HostMonster business model was simple and easy to understand: one main shared hosting platform for small websites, personal projects, blogs and small businesses. Its traditional package included domain hosting, email accounts, website builder tools, free SSL, FTP access, MySQL/PHP support, one-click application installs and cPanel. It was a good fit for users who wanted affordable hosting without needing VPS or dedicated server administration.

Over time, the wider Bluehost/HostMonster ecosystem also covered WordPress Hosting, VPS Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, Domains, Professional Email, SSL Certificates, Website Security, Website Backup, and site-building services. Even so, HostMonster’s identity remained strongly tied to classic shared hosting and cPanel-based website management.

HostMonster became part of Endurance International Group around 2010. In 2021, Endurance Web Presence combined with Web.com to form Newfold Digital (newfold.com), placing Bluehost, HostGator, Domain.com and other major web-presence brands under the same corporate group.

💰 Price & Cost

HostMonster was positioned as a low-cost hosting provider, with strong introductory prices and frequent coupon-style promotions. Its appeal came from bundling several essentials into one account: free domain registration for the first term, shared hosting resources, email, SSL, cPanel and simple WordPress installation.

For former HostMonster customers now managed through Bluehost, pricing follows Bluehost’s current platform. Bluehost uses USD as its main U.S. currency, with localized pricing and language options in several markets. Current Bluehost hosting includes a 30-day money-back guarantee for eligible hosting services, while domains, add-ons and some monthly services are excluded. If a free domain was included and the hosting account is cancelled inside the refund period, the domain fee can be deducted from the refund.

Payment methods on the Bluehost-side platform include credit cards, PayPal, Google Pay, and renewal-only options such as check or wire transfer in specific cases.

🏢 Data Center

HostMonster historically shared infrastructure with Bluehost in Utah, USA, commonly associated with the Provo/Orem hosting environment. This explains why HostMonster and Bluehost had similar performance expectations, account workflows, support structure and cPanel-based management.

The HostMonster-to-Bluehost transition was mainly a brand and account-management consolidation rather than a forced migration of all hosted content. Existing hosting services continued through the Bluehost environment, keeping the older HostMonster accounts operational under the larger platform.

Today, support is handled through Bluehost. The current Bluehost support model includes 24/7 chat support, phone support, a knowledge base and account assistance through the Bluehost portal. The old HostMonster ticket-style support path has been replaced by Bluehost’s support system.

🔨 Control Panel

HostMonster used cPanel, which was one of its most practical advantages. Users could manage email accounts, files, databases, FTP, redirects, domains, subdomains, backups and scripts from a familiar hosting interface.

Hostmonster is great. Tech Support is excellent, don't have to wait more than 5 minutes, and the Techs don't mind fielding questions outside the realm of Hostmonster. I like the $50 AdWords and $25 Yahoo Credits. Affiliate program is excellent also, I have refered people and gotten $65 after 3 months hosted.

It is simply incredibly comparing to my previous host, Webhostingpad.

Webhostingpad advertise their plan as unlimited which turned out to be fake.

Hostmonster allows its user to use their server as web disk to store truly unlimited amount of data.

Nobody else can offer plan like this.

I think HostMonster is great. The Customer Service people are friendly, and I haven't been put on hold for a lenghty period of time. The Tech Support is great too, they are willing to answer questions that were not specific to my account, it's great to get some added information. Once I was doing some web work for a client, and I was totally stone walled by thier Web Host, after dealing with them, I realize HostMonster is #1 for me, no comparison.

HostMonster have every feature I have ever wanted. They are also very cheap and their service is wonderful. They have answered all my questions within only a few hours even on the weekend. I rate them 11 out of ten!!! And no I dont work for them.

😠 2 days ago, they deactivated our account for spam. We told them that this is our product delivery. We need to email our digital product as pdf to all readers. 2 days later, not only was the account deactivated again, but this time they also magically found malware, but wont share scan results. There was NO CHANGE in the code during this time. ALL our stuff is well known Wordpress plugins. They are completely insane and unresponsive. 8 hours and counting.

😞 I've used hostmonster for around 15 years and will be cancelling this year. The main reason is the hidden costs. Effectively, I was charged for the Plus plan + 1 domain of more than 200$/year. The invoice said 19.99$/month and customer service could not explain the high cost when renewal on their site is stated to be 14.95$.
What I am saying is that it's only the first year that's cheap (4 or 6$/month). After that the price explodes secretly without being communicated with you. I am angry because I trusted them and didn't bother to check my credit card invoices for years only to find out recently of the terrible surcharge.

😠 Absolutely awful customer service. We requested a DKIM record be setup (their DNS zone editor has a bug so we couldn't do it ourselves. We are now on day 6 and it still isn't done, despite being told every day it has. The live support chat is a waste of time as they have to escalate everything to 2nd line support, who dont seem to exist because you never hear back from them. Avoid at all costs.

😠 I had my web site on Hostmonster for over 3 years, and it was a nightmare. First off, they do throttling. They have patented technology for throttling the number of CPU cycles a customer's web site may use, and they use their throttling technology heavily. When your web site takes off and becomes popular, you will get email messages from visitors complaining that your site is down, and inaccessible. That's Hostmonster at work.

Hostmonster is an over-seller. Meaning: they do not have the resources needed to give what they sold you. They promised you the moon to get you to sign up with them, offering free and unlimited everything, and then they don't have the computers or the bandwidth to deliver on their promises. So they throttle your web site, and don't serve out the pages, or just serve them out very, very slowly.

They have, or had, when I was on it, a hard limit of 50,000 files. They offered unlimited storage, but with the gotcha that you could only have 50,000 files. [read more...]

They are careful to keep web serving up most of the time, but they let the background functions like email and cgi-bin and Cpanel fall apart. At this moment, email is still down after 2 days. They constantly overload their servers until things break. Then when you complain, they claim that everything looks good at their end, and it must be your fault.

Even when email and MySQL and cgi-bin do work, they work so slowly, because of the overloaded servers, that it is a painful experience of wait, wait, wait.

I have to find a new hosting service.

Hostmonster is so terrible, they shouldn't be allowed to exist, in my opinion. It is fraudulent to create the illusion of easy, consistent hosting, then arbitrarily shut down or change rules that eliminate any benefit in using them. They know how difficult it is to move all hosting from one provider to another and they use this fact to beat on the very people they seek loyalty from. Getting screwed over so many times by their very draconian practices only builds resentment and they absolutely do not care. Nobody should host with this company.

This host type are for Static HTML Sites only .
If you run any script even light one like wordpress or wiki as some customer reviewed you will be in dead zone with "CPU throttling ".
to be honest there server was stable and my web site down for few minutes past 6 months ..
But the hosting are really really slow if you care about your site rank and reputation with visitors try another host .
Finally don't even try CPU upgrade option even detective IP All this are useless if you have grown site use VPS from any decent Host with similar price .
and you will see a lot of differences

customer support is awesome, downtime so far I experienced is very decent, CPanel is good, with less or no ads that I experienced, script installer is as well very good with uptodate scripts and loads.
so far havent exeprienced any problems that could make me look for another hosts.
Looking forward to stay with hostmonster for as long as I get the same services.

😞 I signed onto HM over 3 years ago, originally because it was reasonably priced, and had nice features.

At first, they were great, but things went downhill about a year ago, as their shared servers started to get over-sold. HM jacked up the yearly renewal price, and dropped their "free" anti-spam filter (because it took up too much processing power to filter emails.) Then they introduced CPU throttling without having tested it properly-- my sites were sometimes throttled for no reason. (This has since been cleared up *magically* although my sites haven't changed.)

I suffered through all this, because they seemed to have "real" tech support reps, not outsourced-- and just before I renewed, after repeated complaints from me, they agreed to migrate my account to one of their newer server, since the old one was increasingly slow/crashing. (Yes, they kept customers on failing servers until they were forced to upgrade them.)

😠 I am using hostmonter for 6 months.
Everything was OK.
Now I installed wiki and got cpu throttling 5-30 second per hour.
As I was going to install forum in addition, I applied to hostmonster team.
They proposed me high cpu server for $19.
After moving I had cpu throttling 500-1500 second per hour.
Even after removing wiki and DB I had cpu throttling 30 second per hour.
I asked support for help, but nobody even tried to fix something.
So $19 server is much more worse than $6 server.
Resume:
If your project is small, hostmonster is good for you.
Otherwise, you should search something else.
And advice, do not buy $19 server at hostmonster.
It is cheating, move instead to dedicated server.

Their claim of "unlimited domains" is partially true, they charge you $10 for each additional domain they host. They have reduced the number of databases allowed and their tech support and sales are sub par. Fine for someone who only hosts one domain or only needs a handful of databases, not good for a power developer.

Very much tools in cpanel, friendly help in setting up eight domains...
Extra domains are cheap, awstats costs money, but not as much as I paid to JustHost.

😞 When I first started with these folks my law practice was a tart-up, so I had little to no traffic. As my business started to grow the issues with HostMonster became more and more apparent in seing the lack of professionalism and overall knowledge of their customer service and tech support department. Bottomline, they were not able to efficiently handle a growing business with many email accounts and above-average traffic. Their down-time became more constant and their lack of proper customer service became untolerable.
They do have a good control panel but not if you are trying to run a successful business or expecting 100% up-time, just not gonna happen with HostMonster.com. I actually thought about legally pursuing this as a claim but not worth my time. Thank you.

😁 Host Monster is an exceptionally good web hosting, with intelligent, well trained talent that answers the phone in a timely manner. Not only were they more knowledgeable than my competition, but they answered the phone in a timely manner. Their prices are well worth every penny, and then some. I had one outage on my MySQL of which they were already working on when I called so essentially highly responsive. My company had some pretty crazy questions related to open source scripting and they were able to answer it in a timely manner. My client needed additional ram, and they happily supplied me with it. I did not get even close to this good of service with 1&1 or Technolojik despite higher prices. With these guys you're not just getting good hosting you're getting a wealth of knowledge included. I would reccomend them to anybody who wants good shared hosting.

😠 wow where to start. the prices are low for the first year and are a really good deal. But they do that only because they want to lure you in - the regular price is considerably higher and not worth it all considering the limitations they impose.

The initial price is rock bottom at cost to them because they want you to host with them, and then to get trapped in with them because you agreed to min 1-2 years of hosting (1 year at discount rate, 2nd year at full rate). They also bank on lazy or inexperienced webmasters hosting their site and then not knowing how to move their site and thus continuing to host with hostmonster at their regular rate (which is much higher).

They have really bad data limits meaning that even though they offer large amounts of bandwidth they won't let you use it. If you come near anything close to your bandwidth limit or anything higher than a 20+ gigs - they'll cancel your hosting without giving you warning or money back. 😞 I am not a customer of them, because i was pissed off by their support when I ask them to clarify things that is not clear in ther advertisement. The guy quit my chat MANY times. 😉 I received an email from Hostmonster informing me that me host was due for renewal. I then get an email saying they had deducted $107 from my credit card! What happened to their $6.95 per month and why didn't they tell me the amount would be a lot higher. I emailed them asking why this was so much higher ($8.90) and the reply I got was this:

Last year, due to customer requests, we purchased additional equipment of higher quality. We also needed to increase our staff and hire on additional developers. The staff change was to prevent long hold times, and assure quick and accurate customer service. We spent a great deal of money and time on a better accounting system, so that we could prevent human error in account activities. Due to all of the changes, we had to increase our rates. 😠 My website goes down now on a weekly basis including 3 times today. I always get the same reply from tech. that they are aware of this issue and it will take around 20 minutes. I kindly informed them that this has been going on for weeks! The first 2 times I was ignored and the last was suggested to look at another host organization with dedicated servers! My website is around 25 pages with very little traffic. Perhaps they should have said this before taking my money and place on their home page that they have server problems! Bad support! 😠 Their cheap plan is just that - very limited once you really start using it you realise that it does not have the features etc - so you have to buy these and they add cost - this has made them more expensive than several other better hosts I have used.

Uptime used to be good but lately things have gone off the boil and we are continually discovering issues. They also have a cavalier attitude to service. (IMHO)

😠 I hosted with them for over a year now. Same script same database same avarage number of visitors . Suddenly in 2009 they just suspended my account saying I am using too much resources and I need to fix my script. They did not give me even a notice just removed my website which is a simple business directory.

I don not recommend them if you are planing to grow and have couple hundred visitors.

They will be happy to host your html only website without database but if you need for half the price I will give you a webhost for that.

😠 STAY AWAY FROM HOSTMONSTER. I've never seen a worst people like them, as soon as you start getting any real traffic, your site will be shut down. My site was SHUT DOWN WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING, and no explanation was given. My site was down for 48 hours, costing me money. In addition my hosting fees were not refunded.
They really a Hosting Monster indeed!!!

😠 Host monster just deactivated my account without warning and told me that i use the site for storage of files for the website.... itsn't that what a HOST does??? the abuse dept, (the only people to re-activate the account) number has been disconnected, customer support is no help!!

Website was down atleast 3-4 times a week for 30 mins or more at a time.

1. They have technical problem with dns -to add domain and assign it support L2 has spend about 2 days to get it work due to errors in DNS
2. Hosted services flapping (no down but respond times can be so long that you get timeout on specific service - I have logs in my monitoring system)
3. Support is very poor L1 can do nothing only sends standard e-mails and do not exchange informations about tickets between each others, so every time you contact them (regarding this same problem or TT) you have to explain your problem because it is new consultant and have no idea what are you talking about ...it is really fake support

😉 We move two of our domains to this company based on the web hosting top.com review.. I purchased the annual plan and when it came up for renewal, my credit card expired during that year and I have over 2500 domains and did not received any notification that the card on file had expired. The account was suspended by midnight.. I went online, updated the credit and the billing department was closed! No notification, no one there to process my card and no attempts to contact me. Beware if you expect better service. All other hosting companies billing system is automatic. Beware!!

I had other problems with my email through out the year. I usually host with a company for 1 year before and migrate domains.. Beware!!!

I gave them 9 to support because they habitually respond to support ticket within some minutes, recently they do after 24 hours. bit their replies are always exact solutions to any problem, their responses are always do...and it should work, no doubt it works. Without exaggerating, after reading reviews and experienced many hosters, with the facts hostmonster is a real monster of host.

CPU USAGE LIMITS
Lot of positive things but my site has 20 queries and so that my site is down with only few hundred visitors per day as Hostmonster has a CPU limit and my visitors keep getting

😁 I've been hosting with them for about 2 months as of now.

First off, there cpanel sucked! BUT! They just updated it yesterday, and now it looks ssssssssssssssssoooooooooooooooo much better.

About there customers support.

I've been reading some pretty bad reviews on this, and they were all dated back in 2006. Never had I have a support ticket waited 10 days or longer. (But lately, probably because of something, I had that happen to 2 of my support tickets, maybe something just happened to them). But, beyond that, if you ever need help, at the most, you can use there live chat for ASAP support, that's why support ticket take up to 24 hours for response. Lucky me, when ever I get support via there live support system, I always get Ryan 2 but he always seems to help me, and express his opinions about certain support question (Whether they are obvious or not). 😠 The worst Hoster I never had, if you have more then 4 users visiting you website at the same time, they shutdown your website, with the message CPU Exceeded Time.
I m looking for alternative Hoster without this Drama.

😠 This was the worse webhosting ever. My site got hacked. I fix it. But hostmonster did not like it and pull the plug without telling me.

😃 I'll skip the features. You can do a quick comparison with other hosting plans, services. The features are very competitive at the price they advertise. Price cost is extremely attractive (or so you think). Support is definitely excellent. At the very least, a published support line and on-line chat that I've never had to wait for over 5 times on about 10 support calls/requests I've made. Yet, I just found out one extremely nagging limitation. They set a limit of 50 emails/hr. You can have the limit raised to 500 emails/hr. 500 emails sounds like a lot, no? The truth is, it's a horrible limitation if you need to send customized emails to 1000 users... what do you do? Internet is about marketing, advertising, support... email is one major tool for marketing. On top of all this, you will not be aware of this feature until you hit the limit. 😠 I was very optimistic that this was going to be a great hosting provider for me, but I realized they did not have a feature I needed (virtualhosting for subdomains) and so cancelled the order within 30 days. No harm done I thought, but they have been very difficult in allowing me to transfer my domains to another provider. They have been playing games with me for 3 months now. I otherwise would recommend them, but really hate providers that pull slimy stuff like this. I would avoid given the spite-factor that seems to be part of their offering.

😁 Hostmonster is the best ! I love their customer support. their hosting packages allow me to host unlimit domains with 200 GB of space, 2 TB of BW and a price of 4.95/month. The server is reliable, nice, fast, secure. On top of this, I have full control over my site. I recommend hostmonster to whoever want to begin with the hosting stuff or experts. 😠 The features and the hosting is adequate, but customer support is awful. They take forever to answer support tickets, and even longer to fix problems. I have experienced numerous occassions when the servers have been down. I currently have a support ticket which they "escalated" almost 1 week ago to fix a problem their end, and I am still waiting for a reply, let alone a solution. The ticket is 10 days old at the time of this writing - unnacceptable in my opinion. If you need any kind of customer support, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
