HostMonster project was started by Matt Heaton shortly after making bluehost.com a great success.By today, even after being part of EIG they still offer only shared hosting. Why ? Simple because this is their strong part of the business. So, if you want a cheap and reliable provider, you are on good hands with these guys.
From the beginning, they only had ONE webhosting package available (under Linux platform) with full of features. Nowadays they still have just one plan, where you can host unlimited domains and get one free domain registration included. So basically, for any startup, they offer the best choice.

😞 I've used hostmonster for around 15 years and will be cancelling this year. The main reason is the hidden costs. Effectively, I was charged for the Plus plan + 1 domain of more than 200$/year. The invoice said 19.99$/month and customer service could not explain the high cost when renewal on their site is stated to be 14.95$.
What I am saying is that it's only the first year that's cheap (4 or 6$/month). After that the price explodes secretly without being communicated with you. I am angry because I trusted them and didn't bother to check my credit card invoices for years only to find out recently of the terrible surcharge.
