📄 Editorial Review

Webkeeper is a Swiss web hosting provider headquartered in Volketswil, Canton Zurich. Its services concentrate on shared web hosting, managed WordPress and Joomla hosting, domain registration, website building, email, and migration services. The current company, webkeeper GmbH, was established in 2012, taking over the earlier sole proprietorship webkeeper by frattali. Sandro Frattali has been associated with the business as shareholder and managing director.

The service has a distinctly Swiss profile. Hosting infrastructure is located in Zurich, Switzerland, billing is primarily in CHF, and the website is available in German, English, and Italian. This makes it suitable for both domestic customers and international users looking specifically for Swiss-hosted websites and email.

The standard Webhosting range consists of Mini, Basic, Optima, and Performa packages. Mini includes 2 GB SSD storage and support for one domain, Basic increases this to 10 GB and five domains, Optima provides 50 GB and support for 20 domains, while Performa reaches 200 GB and supports unlimited domains. Unlimited traffic is included throughout the range, while the larger plans add more databases, Git integration, and SSH/Shell access.

WordPress Hosting comes with WordPress already installed, automatic updates, WordPress Toolkit, nightly backups, and free SSL certificates. Optima and Performa add Git and SSH access, while Smart-Update is included for selected domains. Smart-Update checks WordPress updates on a copy of the site before applying them to the production installation, which can reduce the risk of plugin, theme, or core-update conflicts. WP Rocket is included with the higher WordPress plans.

Joomla Hosting follows a similar structure, with Joomla preinstalled, Joomla Toolkit, automatic updates, free SSL, security functions, and nightly backups. Storage ranges from 10 GB up to 200 GB depending on the package, with Git and SSH included on higher plans.

Security features include free Let's Encrypt (letsencrypt.org) SSL certificates, automated security patching for supported CMS installations, malware scanning, antivirus protection, and spam filtering. Hosting systems are monitored around the clock, while backups are generated every night on separate systems.

The SiteBuilder is intended for customers who prefer not to manage WordPress, Joomla, or another CMS. It combines the site-building application with web hosting and email. The Basic package includes 10 GB storage and two email accounts, while Pro provides 50 GB and unlimited email accounts. Features include image galleries, contact forms, maps, YouTube integration, SSL, SEO functions, and responsive layouts. The larger package also adds statistics, multilingual website capabilities, social integrations, protected pages, custom HTML/CSS, and e-commerce functions.

Domain registration is another important part of the service. Webkeeper handles a wide selection of country-code, generic, and newer domain extensions, including .ch, .com, .net, .org, and .de. Domains can also be maintained separately from hosting.

Customers moving from another provider can use Website Migration and Email Migration services. Website migration covers CMS installations, databases, and website files, while mailbox migration can preserve existing folders and email status information. WordPress Smart-Update is also available separately when additional installations need the same update-testing functionality.

Webkeeper is primarily intended for websites, WordPress and Joomla projects, domains, and business email. VPS, public cloud VM, dedicated-server, and colocation services are not part of its regular hosting portfolio.
