*📜 Plan description
The Let's Encrypt SSL certificate is included at no additional cost with active Tiger Technologies hosting and is automatically obtained, installed and renewed whenever the hosted domain uses compatible DNS settings. It enables HTTPS encryption and authenticates the hosted website so browsers can establish a secure connection. The included certificate provides wildcard coverage for the hosted domain and its subdomains, so the protected-domain count is recorded as unlimited subdomains. It is installed on a free shared IP address and works with popular desktop browsers and operating systems released from 2007 onward and popular mobile systems released from 2010 onward. When automatic issuance is not possible, such as when third-party DNS prevents validation, the in-house control panel provides the steps needed to request and install the certificate. The certificate is available only for websites directly hosted on Tiger Technologies servers and is not sold for use on external servers. Customers can manage SSL status through the browser control panel, switch site links to HTTPS, manage DNS, and request assistance through the ticket system, email or telephone. The hosted website runs on Linux and Apache in the Fremont, California data center, with SSD RAID 1 storage, redundant power and cooling, multiple network providers and a 99.9 percent monthly hosting-uptime guarantee. The certificate itself has no separate setup fee, renewal charge or transfer price. It is renewed automatically while compatible hosting remains active.
📄 Editorial Review
Tiger Technologies is an independent American web hosting provider and ICANN-accredited domain registrar based in Berkeley, California. The business began in 1991 as a software company, established an Internet presence in 1994, and has provided web hosting and domain services since 1999. Founder and president Robert Mathews has remained closely involved with the company, which continues to operate under independent ownership rather than as part of a larger hosting group. The company has approximately half a dozen employees and serves more than 19,000 customers across 126 countries, while managing over 56,000 domain names. Its relatively small size supports a direct service model in which experienced employees handle technical questions without outsourcing support to external call centers.
Tiger Technologies concentrates on Linux shared hosting, WordPress hosting, business email and domain registration. The company does not offer VPS, dedicated servers, Windows hosting, reseller hosting, Microsoft Exchange, PostgreSQL, Java or Tomcat hosting. Its services are therefore aimed primarily at conventional websites, small businesses, developers, nonprofit organizations and customers who value dependable shared hosting rather than scalable cloud infrastructure.
Three main hosting plans are available: Basic Hosting, Plus Hosting and Business Hosting. Every plan includes SSD storage configured with RAID 1, unmetered traffic, a qualifying domain name, daily backups, email hosting, MySQL databases, PHP, Perl CGI, SSH access, unlimited subdomains, website statistics and WordPress support.
Basic Hosting includes 50 GB of SSD storage, 100 POP or IMAP mailboxes, 40 MySQL databases, a 25% script CPU allocation and support for up to 10 add-on domains. Plus Hosting increases these allowances to 75 GB of storage, 150 mailboxes, 60 databases, a 50% CPU allocation and 15 add-on domains. Business Hosting provides 120 GB of storage, 250 mailboxes, 200 databases, a 75% CPU allocation and up to 25 add-on domains.
Email hosting is a strong part of every account rather than a limited supplementary feature. Customers receive POP3 and IMAP access, browser-based webmail, forwarding addresses, autoresponders, mailing lists, spam protection and regularly updated ClamAV virus scanning. Accounts can support approximately 1,000 forwarding addresses, while outgoing email and mailing-list allowances increase with the selected hosting package.
WordPress can be installed directly from the account panel, and customers moving an existing WordPress website can receive free migration assistance. This remains traditional shared WordPress hosting rather than a fully managed WordPress environment, so customers remain responsible for their themes, plugins, website content and application maintenance.
The hosting environment uses Linux and Apache 2.4 with HTTP/2, PHP, Perl, Python, FastCGI, OPcache, mod_rewrite, custom
.htaccess files, cron jobs, remote MySQL connections, IPv6 and SSH access. Free Let’s Encrypt certificates are included with current hosting accounts. Commercial AlphaSSL certificates are also available, including single-hostname and wildcard options.Additional websites can be connected through Add-On Hosting. Each add-on domain has separate website files, email accounts and databases while sharing the available resources of the main hosting package. A qualifying .com, .net or .org add-on includes registration, renewal, hosting and email service. This arrangement is practical for customers managing several independent websites, although it is not intended for commercial hosting resale.
Tiger Technologies has held ICANN registrar accreditation since 2004. Domain-only customers can register, renew and transfer domain names, use domain parking or URL forwarding, manage nameservers and DNS records, and enable WHOIS privacy where the relevant registry permits it. Operating as an accredited registrar gives the company direct responsibility for its domain-registration services rather than relying entirely on a wholesale registrar.
The company also maintains a detailed environmental policy. Improvements in server efficiency reduced data center electricity consumption by approximately 17% between 2020 and 2023 despite customer growth. Direct annual electricity consumption is approximately 55,000 kWh, while independently certified renewable-energy contributions offset twice that amount.
The website and customer interface are available in English, and prices are listed in US dollars. The design is narrow, text-heavy and visually dated compared with newer cloud-hosting storefronts. Navigation remains functional, and the technical documentation is exceptionally detailed, but customers expecting a modern multilingual portal may find the presentation old-fashioned.
