📄 Editorial Review
RSAWEB operates as a South African internet service and cloud/hosting provider rather than a simple budget web host. The company has been around since 2001, founded by Rob Gilmour and Mark Slingsby, and has grown into a mid-sized team headquartered in Cape Town with an additional office in Johannesburg in South Africa. Over time they have built a portfolio that runs from home fibre and mobile data up to cloud servers, virtual data centre services, shared web hosting, email hosting, domain registration and enterprise data-centre solutions. For classic web hosting, RSAWEB offers shared hosting on shared servers. Websites and email accounts sit on multi-tenant Linux servers managed by RSAWEB, with clear rules around content, disk usage and acceptable use. Shared hosting is meant for "normal" website workloads: HTML/PHP sites, CMS platforms and business email. The hosting terms stress that disk space is for website content and related email only – no general file storage, backups, warez or adult content – and RSAWEB reserves the right to move sites between servers and backbones if needed. Spam and virus filtering is included for email, and there is built-in webmail access, so small businesses can run their entire web and mail presence on these packages without extra software.
On top of that sits domain registration and DNS hosting. RSAWEB registers domains through accredited registrars (for example via OpenSRS for many gTLDs) and keeps the domains under the customer’s control while handling the technical side – DNS, renewals and transfers in or out. Domains are typically registered for 12-month periods with renewal responsibility falling on the customer; transfers from other hosts are supported, and there is explicit protection against "cybersquatting", with disputes handled through the standard ICANN / South African ADR processes.
The company also runs a broader cloud and IaaS stack, notably under the CloudDNA / SME Cloud umbrella. This includes cloud servers, virtual data centre environments, backup and disaster recovery, and cloud security services. Customers can build virtual infrastructure (from a single cloud server to a full virtual data centre) on platforms engineered and operated by RSAWEB, or let RSAWEB manage workloads on hyperscalers such as AWS through their cloud partner practice. For SMEs this provides a middle ground between cheap shared hosting and complex enterprise infrastructure: virtual machines with flexible CPU/RAM/disk, API-driven provisioning, and options to bolt on backup, DR and security services.
Higher up the stack, RSAWEB caters to larger businesses with dedicated servers and colocation-style solutions in South African data-centre facilities, as well as connectivity into those sites via business fibre, fixed LTE and MPLS-style services. That means a customer can keep latency-sensitive workloads inside local data centres while backhauling branch offices over RSAWEB’s own network.
A key differentiator is that connectivity and hosting live under one roof. A company can buy fibre access, route it into RSAWEB’s own data-centre infrastructure, keep public-facing sites on shared hosting or cloud servers, push backups into their backup/DR platforms and have everything supported by the same support and billing system. This integrated model suits South African SMEs that want one provider for internet access, hosting and cloud, even if RSAWEB’s marketing today leans more toward connectivity and cloud than low-end shared hosting alone.
