Greatnet.de is an established German web hosting provider operating since 1999. Marco Frazzetta and Oliver Lindner were closely involved in the ownership and management of the hosting business during its early development. On December 14, 2011, Greatnet became part of the 1blu Group. At the time of the acquisition, the Greatnet group included Greatnet.de, Greatweb.de and pro.vider.de and served more than 40,000 customers.

Greatnet.de GmbH continues to operate as a separate German legal entity, with Johann Dasch as managing director. Its position within the 1blu Group provides access to the infrastructure and operational resources of a larger hosting organization managing approximately 300,000 customer contracts across several brands.

The active product range is concentrated on domain packages and shared web hosting. Older documentation continues to cover VPS, root servers, managed servers, reseller hosting, colocation, e-commerce packages and Greatnet Drive online storage, but these products are mainly relevant to existing legacy customers rather than new orders.

The entry-level Domain package combines one .de domain with 10 MB of webspace, one IMAP or POP3 mailbox, 200 MB of email storage, webmail, forwarding, FTP and FTPS access, antivirus protection and antispam filtering. It can support a basic mailbox, domain forwarding or a very small static website, although the storage allocation is extremely limited.

The Home hosting package includes 1 GB of SSD webspace, one .de domain, 100 email mailboxes, 2 GB of email storage and one MySQL database. The Start package increases the allocation to 1.5 GB of SSD storage, three .de domains, 100 mailboxes and three MySQL databases.

The Power package provides 2 GB of SSD webspace, three .de domains, 150 mailboxes, 4 GB of email storage and five MySQL databases. The largest Premium package includes 5 GB of SSD storage, 300 mailboxes, 10 GB of email storage and ten MySQL databases. Two included domains use the .de extension, while the third can also be registered with extensions such as .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz or .eu.

All shared hosting packages include unmetered traffic, SSD-based MySQL databases, FTP and FTPS access, phpMyAdmin, cron jobs, custom php.ini settings, password-protected directories, visitor statistics, log files, webmail, ClamAV antivirus protection, antispam filtering, an application installer and free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates. A backup manager is included for customer-controlled backup creation.

The available PHP versions include PHP 5.6, 7.3, 7.4, 8.0, 8.1 and 8.2. Access to older PHP branches can help customers maintaining legacy applications, although the absence of PHP 8.3 and newer releases makes the platform less attractive for new development projects.

A broad selection of additional domain extensions is supported, including European country-code domains and widely used generic extensions. Registration prices depend on the extension and whether the domain is already included with the selected hosting package.

Greatnet is primarily suited to lightweight websites, email accounts and older applications. The storage allocations of 1 GB to 5 GB are restrictive by modern standards and can be consumed quickly by WordPress installations, media files, email archives and backup copies.

The website is available primarily in German, with prices displayed in euros and including 19% VAT. Its compact, traditional design is noticeably dated and less comfortable to use on smaller screens than a modern responsive hosting interface.
