😠 Abruptly took down the site, it is now 'Forbidden' No warning or opportunity to download latest. Tech support gives unclear answers as to why, threatens to take down my other site if I persist. E-mails to 'complaints' result in accusations that the site is trying to phish (no way!) Requests to specify where the problem is (there is no problem) just tell me that the case is closed and to use another provider. So use them only if you don't care if your site is shut down without good reason.

😁 Over 20 years ago I wrote a small website offering free downloads of DOS programs, as well Sinclair Spectrum computer games that I had written back in the 80's. Freeserve, then owned by Dixons Stores Group PLC., hosted it until acquired by British Telecom PLC whom closed all Freeserve accounts in 2016.
Recently I decided to search for a new host for my "hobbyist" website and elected to try Freehostia. The control panel seemed logical and straightforward and it was simple to use my existing Domain Name. Rather than change my Nameservers and potentially trifle with email forwarding, I elected to change my A and CNAME Records with my Domain provider to point to the IP address Freehostia gave me. It was simple to upload my existing files through their File Manager and brilliant to be able to see my old website come back to life once my Records had propagated throughout the web. Initially, some of my pictures didn't appear. This turned out to be my historical bad practice of mixing upper and lower case with some of my filenames, whilst the HTML generator forced everything to lowercase.
I am on their Chocolate free plan and my little site is well below the limits for this. This free plan does not include SMTP, fair enough, no complaint there at all. It might be nice after, all these years, to actually send emails using my own domain name (instead of reply to) and I may well look to upgrade to an inexpensive plan to allow me to do this now, I have confidence with their system.
I am delighted with Freehostia, a straightforward company to deal with and no catches!
