Domainplanet is an Austrian domain-registration and shared web-hosting provider operated by VIM Internetdienstleistungen GmbH in Vienna. VIM was incorporated in 2001 and is registered in Austria under company number FN 207527m and VAT ID ATU52295608. The company has a long history in the Austrian Internet-services market and combines Domainplanet's retail hosting services with broader IT, network and infrastructure activities through VIM.

Domainplanet is primarily focused on Domains, Shared Hosting and Email Hosting. The service is considerably more traditional than a modern hyperscale cloud platform, but it covers the core requirements of individuals, small businesses and organizations that need Austrian domain registration, web space, databases and email accounts. VPS, public cloud instances and dedicated-server packages are not part of the regular Domainplanet retail range.

Domain registration is an important part of the business. A very large assortment of country-code and generic extensions is available, including .at, .com, .de, .eu and .net together with numerous geographic, industry-specific and newer generic TLDs. Selected extensions can be included with hosting packages, while other domains are charged according to the respective registry and extension price.

Domain Lite is the smallest package and is intended mainly for domain and email use rather than conventional website hosting. It includes one domain, domain forwarding, a POP3 mailbox and multiple email aliases. It is suitable for customers who primarily need a professional domain name with email and forwarding functions.

Domain Basic, also associated with the Website Basic level, adds conventional web space and is suitable for smaller websites. It includes 10 GB of storage, multiple POP3 mailboxes, email aliases, FTP access and CGI support.

Web Home is the first more complete PHP/MySQL hosting package. It includes 50 GB of web space, multiple domains, up to 100 POP3 mailboxes, hundreds of email aliases, FTP, PHP, MySQL and CGI support. Email forwarding, catch-all functionality, distribution lists and webmail are also included.

Web Business increases the resources to 100 GB of storage and provides substantially more mailboxes and aliases. PHP, MySQL, FTP and CGI are included, making this package more appropriate for database-driven company websites and larger email requirements.

The higher hosting range includes a 200 GB configuration with PHP, MySQL, FTP, SSL, 300 POP3 mailboxes and up to 3,000 aliases. Domainplanet also has a larger Web Expert configuration with 500 GB of storage, multiple included domains, hundreds of POP3 mailboxes, thousands of aliases, PHP, MySQL, CGI and support for .NET/ASPX workloads.

There is some inconsistency in the naming and pricing of the upper hosting tiers. The 200 GB package is associated with a €14.90 monthly price in the newer ordering environment, while the larger Web Expert configuration is priced at €29.90 per month and includes 500 GB. Customers interested in the larger packages should therefore pay particular attention to the exact resource allocation selected during ordering.

Email functionality is one of Domainplanet's stronger areas. Services support POP3, IMAP, SMTP, encrypted mail connections, webmail, forwarding, catch-all addresses, distribution lists and autoresponders. Authentication details and individual mailboxes can be administered directly from the customer account.

Domain administration includes redirects, frame forwarding, URL masking, IP forwarding, subdomains, individual forwarding destinations and configurable DNS records such as A, MX and CNAME. Customers can also use external nameservers when required.

The service is strongly oriented toward Austria and German-speaking customers. The website and customer information are primarily in German, and a complete multi-language/localized version does not exist. Prices are denominated in EUR, with Austrian VAT applied where applicable.

The platform has a noticeably traditional character. Some technical references still include older technologies and terminology such as PHP 7.3, ASP/ASPX and FrontPage-related features. The basic hosting architecture remains useful for conventional websites and email, but customers looking for a modern cloud-native environment will find Domainplanet much more focused on classic shared hosting.
