📄 Editorial Review
Domain.com was for many years a straightforward domain registrar and entry-level hosting provider, founded by George DeCarlo in 1999 and later becoming part of the Newfold Digital group. For a long time it operated as a familiar brand for budget domains and simple hosting, particularly for small businesses and individual site owners in North America. That chapter is now effectively closed. The Domain.com brand has been retired as an active storefront, and the main site redirects into NetworkSolutions.com, another long-standing registrar and hosting provider under the same corporate umbrella. New customers no longer buy services from Domain.com itself; they are funneled straight into the Network Solutions product stack, and existing Domain.com clients are essentially being served under the Network Solutions environment.
Historically, Domain.com focused on keeping the basics simple: domain registration, DNS, Linux shared hosting, WordPress hosting, SSL and a modest website builder. In its current form, those functions live on inside Network Solutions. There is still a broad domain search with low-cost TLD options, WHOIS lookup, privacy services, expiration protection and DNS management, now run through Network Solutions’ Account Manager. For former Domain.com customers managing a portfolio of domains, the day-to-day experience is largely unchanged apart from branding and interface.
On the hosting side, what used to be Domain.com’s small shared and WordPress plans has been replaced by Network Solutions’ multi-tier Linux hosting and managed WordPress line-up. Shared hosting is structured into several levels (for example Starter, Essential and Premium) that scale disk space, website count and bundled email. All plans come with unmetered bandwidth, while higher tiers add a free first-year domain and free SSL to build a more complete starter package for business sites.
Managed WordPress hosting follows a similar three-tier model aimed at entrepreneurs, growing businesses and agencies. Storage increases with each tier, the number of WordPress sites goes up, and all plans include on-demand cloud backups. Mid and top tiers add a first-year SSL certificate, automatic updates and performance tuning targeted at WordPress, making them more suitable for users who update content frequently or run multiple sites.
Another clear upgrade over the old Domain.com era is the website builder stack. Network Solutions now offers AI-assisted builders with distinct Website, Website + Marketing and eCommerce plans. These can generate layouts and draft content, integrate email marketing, handle appointment bookings and support selling on external marketplaces such as Amazon or eBay. What used to be a basic site builder behind Domain.com is now part of a fuller online-presence toolkit.
Beyond websites and hosting, the combined platform provides professional email (with larger mailbox tiers for teams), Google Workspace integration, SSL certificates across DV/OV/EV levels, malware scanning, automatic backups and a range of marketing and SEO tools. For customers who originally came to Domain.com for "everything under one roof," that idea now lives on through Network Solutions rather than through Domain.com as a distinct host.
