Computel is a Dutch hosting, Internet infrastructure and business IT provider based in Apeldoorn. Its history reaches back to 1995, with hosting and ICT activities developing further from 1997 and domain-registration services added in 1998. Paul van Dam has been associated with the company as owner since 2015.

The business operates legally as Computel Standby BV, registered under Chamber of Commerce number 08075358 and VAT number NL8016.42.292.B.01. It remains a relatively small specialist provider, with direct access to technical staff and personal telephone assistance forming an important part of its service model.

The portfolio covers Shared Hosting, Managed Hosting, Managed WordPress, Managed Magento, VPS, Dedicated Servers, Domain Registration, SSL Certificates, Business Email, POP/IMAP Email, Microsoft 365, Online Workplaces, Online Backup and Internet Connectivity. Connectivity services include ADSL, VDSL, fiber and FTTH, while a partner program gives web agencies, developers and other IT companies access to hosting, VPS, domains, email and SSL services for their own customers.

Shared hosting runs on Computel's own Dell server infrastructure and supports widely used applications such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and Magento. The Small package includes 1 GB storage, one 1 GB mailbox and one database. Medium increases this to 3 GB storage, three mailboxes and three databases, while Large provides 5 GB storage, five mailboxes and five databases.

Database backup frequency increases with the plan level. Small includes daily database backups, Medium receives four backups per day, and Large receives hourly database backups. Shared hosting also includes daily file backups, unlimited traffic under fair-use conditions and continuous infrastructure monitoring. Website backups are copied automatically to an external backup server and retained for 30 days.

The hosting platform uses redundant hardware components and storage distributed across multiple disks. Computel also maintains a four-hour hardware service arrangement with Dell for replacement components.

Managed hosting is intended for websites and online stores requiring more resources or closer technical administration. Managed WordPress can include server-side caching, automatic updates and monitoring, with Varnish caching available for frequently requested content. Managed Magento is designed for Magento 2 stores and can be expanded as traffic, catalog size or application requirements increase.

Managed environments can include up to 50 GB storage, 4 CPU cores, hourly backups, a .nl domain, SSH and FTP access, SSL and 24/7 monitoring. This makes the managed range considerably more suitable for demanding WordPress, WooCommerce and Magento installations than the smaller standard hosting packages.

Server services include both Dedicated Servers and Virtual Servers / VPS. Dedicated customers receive physical hardware configured around their applications, while VPS customers use virtualized infrastructure and can select an operating system and install their own software. Resources can be expanded as requirements grow.

Server management is available for customers wanting Computel to handle operating-system and software updates, monitoring, firewall administration, external backups and performance supervision. The company works with Linux, Windows, Red Hat, Mac and Exchange environments and monitors CPU usage, memory, network traffic, disk partitions, temperatures and critical server processes.

Domain registration has been available since 1998. Computel participates in SIDN and supports more than 350 domain extensions. Customers have a dedicated domain-management environment for DNS modifications, transfers and registrant changes. Whois Privacy is available for extensions where registry rules allow it.

SSL certificates are available from established certificate authorities including Sectigo, GeoTrust, GlobalSign, Thawte and VeriSign. Domain-validation, extended-validation and wildcard certificates are supported, together with certificate installation and DNS assistance.

Email forms another substantial part of the portfolio. Business Email packages range from 2 GB to 25 GB per mailbox and include shared calendars, shared contacts, push mail, Outlook Web Access, SSL encryption, spam and virus filtering, daily backups and technical support. Lower-cost POP/IMAP mailboxes are also available with SSL, antivirus and spam filtering, webmail and daily backups.

Computel also handles Microsoft 365 licensing, setup, security configuration and two-factor authentication. Additional Microsoft 365 backups can be stored on Computel's own infrastructure, providing another recovery layer outside Microsoft's standard service.

Online Workplaces extend this model into centrally hosted business desktops. Employees can access applications and company data remotely from Windows and Mac computers as well as iPad, iPhone and Android devices.

For agencies and developers, the partner program works much like a reseller arrangement. Partners can manage services and customer administration through a dedicated environment, while Computel can also take care of billing and debtor administration in exchange for an agreed partner structure.

The website is primarily available in Dutch, and a complete English-language version does not exist. Services are priced in EUR. The current website has a modern layout suitable for desktop and mobile use.
