Astutium is a UK hosting, domain-registration and Internet-infrastructure provider headquartered in London, England. The current legal entity, Astutium Limited, was incorporated on August 17, 2012 under company number 08183381, while the technical operation traces its history back to 1996, when it began as OthelloTech providing dial-up access, DSL connectivity and datacenter consultancy.

Robert David Golding has been closely associated with the business for many years and is the current active director. He was also registered as the person with significant control from 2016. Shelagh Mary Shaw remains company secretary. Astutium is a relatively small technical organization, with an employee range of approximately 2–10 people, but its product scope and network infrastructure are substantially broader than the company size might initially suggest.

The portfolio covers Domain Registration, Shared Hosting, WordPress Hosting, Windows Hosting, Application Hosting, E-commerce Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Email Hosting, VPS, VDS, Cloud Servers, Dedicated Servers, Colocation, Backup and Storage, SSL Certificates, Website Builder, Website Migration, DNS services, domain brokerage, server management, network consultancy, WHMCS-related services and gaming infrastructure.

Shared Hosting is divided between small personal accounts and larger business packages. The Copper package is an entry-level option intended for static HTML websites, with 250 MB storage, 1 GB monthly transfer and two email accounts. Gold provides 10 GB storage, 40 GB monthly transfer, 20 email accounts and two databases for PHP/MySQL websites, while Platinum increases this to 25 GB storage, 100 GB transfer, 30 email accounts and three databases.

The shared environment is subject to explicit resource controls. Accounts cannot be used as general-purpose online storage or archival space, and excessive CPU consumption can trigger restrictions. Astutium limits sustained shared-server CPU usage and prohibits unattended daemons, P2P services, IRC software and game servers on standard shared hosting. Monthly bandwidth is package-specific and resets every month rather than rolling forward.

WordPress Hosting starts with a conventional managed shared environment using Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Packages include one-click WordPress installation and updating, a 99.9% uptime guarantee, daily server backups, customer-managed backup tools, a web-application firewall, hardened PHP, antivirus filtering and anti-spam protection. Annual plans can include a domain name.

The WordPress range extends well beyond ordinary shared hosting. Managed WordPress adds professional setup, managed upgrades, enhanced security and monthly backups, while WordPress Cloud places the application on a dedicated WordPress VPS with daily backups and a 99.99% uptime guarantee. This gives customers a reasonably clear upgrade path from a small WordPress website to an isolated virtual environment.

Astutium also maintains application-specific hosting for platforms such as Magento, Drupal, Joomla, Moodle, OpenCart, PrestaShop, phpBB and other PHP applications. Magento Hosting starts with a configuration intended for up to approximately 1,000 products and can be combined with a fixed IP address and SSL certificate.

Email Hosting is available independently of website hosting. A typical Email-5x100 package provides five POP3/IMAP mailboxes, 500 MB storage, SMTP and webmail access. Larger configurations extend to 100 mailboxes and substantially higher storage allocations. Email services include anti-virus and anti-spam protection, while separate forwarding, secondary MX and dedicated email services are also available.

Domain-based forwarding costs from £10 annually for a single web/email forwarding configuration, £20 annually for up to ten individual email forwards and £30 annually for up to fifty. This is useful for customers maintaining domains that do not require a complete hosting package.

Domain Registration is a significant part of the business. Astutium supports hundreds of country-code and generic domain extensions, together with registration, renewal, transfers, Whois privacy, DNS management, domain parking and portfolio administration. There is also a domain-recovery service for customers whose previous registrar or host has stopped trading or is refusing to cooperate.

The company operates a Domain Brokerage service for already-registered domains. Astutium can anonymously contact the current owner, negotiate a purchase, handle contracts and control the transfer process. Standard brokerage is charged by stage, normally £75 plus VAT per stage, with a typical complete transaction around £300 before exceptional legal or travel expenses.

Domain Reseller accounts target web designers, hosting providers, MSPs and larger domain portfolio operators. PAYG reseller access can start without an account fee, with API and WHMCS integration available. Automatic volume discounts scale from 1% for 10–99 active domains through 4% for portfolios exceeding 10,000 domains. Higher reseller levels include larger fixed discounts and prepaid account models.

Reseller Hosting includes cPanel/WHM and DirectAdmin configurations alongside separate reseller email and streaming services. Astutium does not enable resource overselling on its reseller hosting infrastructure, which is a meaningful distinction for resellers concerned about contention between accounts.

Virtual infrastructure is one of Astutium's more technically interesting areas. VPS, VDS and Cloud Servers are available using OpenVZ, Xen and KVM virtualization. The company differentiates lower-cost VPS products with shared CPU resources from fully isolated VDS and KVM configurations with dedicated resources.

Budget OpenVZ systems are intended mainly for testing and temporary tasks, Premium OpenVZ is more appropriate for VPN-type workloads, while Prestige OpenVZ uses SSD storage and higher network throughput. VDS and Cloud KVM products provide isolated resources and Gigabit virtual networking.

Astutium's virtual-server nodes use Supermicro dual-HexCore hardware, RAID-10 storage, 64 GB RAM and redundant power supplies. Customers can obtain full root access and can manage start, stop, reboot, recovery, operating-system rebuilds and upgrades through the client environment. Unmanaged customers are responsible for operating-system security, updates and maintenance, while management services are available separately.

The KVM Virtual Server range starts around £18.95/month for a configuration with 512 MB dedicated RAM, 15 GB RAID storage, a 2.0 GHz CPU allocation and 250 GB premium bandwidth. Some OpenVZ Prestige packages start considerably lower, making them more suitable for lightweight services than for production business hosting.

Dedicated Servers start around £69.95/month. Entry configurations include Intel hardware, SATA storage, 24/7 remote reboot and priority support. Dedicated environments can be used with cPanel/WHM or DirectAdmin and can also be combined with Astutium's server-management services.

Colocation starts around £79.95/month for 1U of rack space, including a dedicated 100 Mb/s switch port, 1,000 GB monthly transfer, remote reboot facilities and approximately 0.5 A / 120 W of UPS-backed power. Private rack space and more complex colocation arrangements are also available.

Additional infrastructure services include website and archive backups, network-attached storage, secondary DNS, secondary mail, SAN archive storage, systems monitoring and network consultancy. Astutium can also design corporate networks involving Ethernet, Wi-Fi, fibre, Layer-2 connectivity, VPN links, VoIP and remote-worker access.

The company offers WHMCS-related development and administration services as well. Available products include registrar modules, remote power-control modules, module installation and complete WHMCS setup. This is a relatively unusual addition for a hosting provider and reflects Astutium's orientation toward hosting resellers and infrastructure operators.

Website migration is another strong practical feature. Standard migrations can transfer websites, databases and email accounts into Astutium hosting, consolidate separate shared-hosting accounts into reseller hosting or move reseller environments onto VPS and dedicated systems. Standard cPanel migrations can be free, while complex migrations from other control panels may involve additional work, commonly around £25 plus VAT.

The site is extensively localized. Available interface languages include English, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Persian, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Macedonian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Ukrainian.

One weakness is presentation. The main website and parts of the customer documentation have a noticeably older design, and some technical articles still contain references to H-Sphere, HELM, DotNetPanel, older mail clients and other legacy technologies. The infrastructure itself continues to receive updates, including cPanel, WHM, PHP, MySQL/MariaDB, Apache and security-related maintenance, but parts of the informational content have not evolved at the same pace.

The main Astutium news blog is also inactive, with its latest visible article dating from December 24, 2023. The operational status system is much more current and includes maintenance information from 2026, so the lack of recent news content should not be confused with an inactive hosting operation.
