Astute Internet is a Canadian business Internet, network and infrastructure provider founded in April 2007. The company operates through Astute Hosting Incorporated from Burnaby, British Columbia, while its United States activities are connected with Astute Hosting USA Inc. Founder Han Hwei Woo started his first hosting operation in 2001 and later gained several years of experience in network operations and systems development at Peer 1 Network.

Astute Internet is considerably more specialized than an ordinary shared hosting company. Its portfolio is built around dedicated servers, bare-metal infrastructure, private cloud, colocation, IP transit, dedicated Internet access, private fibre transport and integrated network services. The company is best suited to technically capable businesses that need customized infrastructure rather than entry-level website hosting.

The dedicated-server range supports Linux and FreeBSD workloads, with configurations extending from smaller four-core systems to multi-processor servers, NVMe storage platforms and GPU-equipped machines. Custom systems can reach as many as 96 processor cores. Server-grade Intel processors, ECC memory, separate public and private VLANs, dual active network connections and IPMI/KVM access are available according to the selected configuration.

Some standardized dedicated-server configurations use older Haswell, Ivy Bridge and Skylake processors, while customized deployments can include substantially newer storage, processor and GPU options. Customers planning an important deployment should confirm the exact processor model, storage hardware, included traffic, server location and provisioning period before placing an order.

The dedicated-server service includes a 100% network uptime guarantee, a 100% power uptime guarantee and a two-hour hardware replacement commitment. These guarantees are particularly useful for businesses running production applications, databases, hosted services or other workloads that cannot tolerate long infrastructure interruptions.

Private Cloud combines dedicated compute nodes with high-capacity shared storage and a private virtualization environment. It is intended for organizations that need isolated cloud infrastructure without sharing processing resources with unrelated customers. Hypervisor selection, storage capacity, redundancy and compute requirements are arranged according to each project.

Colocation is available as individual rack units, quarter cabinets, half cabinets and full cabinets. Packages can combine rack space, electrical capacity, IP addresses, bandwidth and facility access. Shared-rack customers normally receive escorted access, while larger cabinet deployments can include individual access credentials and unescorted entry. Cross-connects and customized connectivity can also be arranged.

The telecommunications portfolio includes Direct Internet Access with symmetrical connectivity from 100 Mbps to 100 Gbps. The IP transit service connects customer equipment directly at Astute Internet points of presence without requiring the company to provide the final access circuit. Private fibre transport supports Layer 1 and Layer 2 connectivity, Ethernet, MPLS and WDM links within metropolitan areas or between cities.

Astute Internet also provides a useful collection of integrated infrastructure services, including Anycast DNS, remote backup, load balancing, redundant firewalls and content delivery. These services can simplify multi-server environments by keeping network, security, backup and traffic-distribution functions with one infrastructure provider.

The Anycast DNS platform includes automated health monitoring and failover using ICMP, TCP or SNMP checks. Remote backups use ZFS snapshots, allowing customers to retain several recovery points rather than relying on a single current copy.

Load balancing is available at the IP, transport and application layers, with round-robin traffic allocation and automated server-health checks. The secure-firewall platform uses redundant OpenBSD PF systems with synchronized connection states, SYN proxying and connection-rate controls.

The CDN supports FTP uploads, origin caching, multiple hostnames and HTTP or HTTPS delivery from root domains. Squid reverse-proxy caching and Nginx static-file delivery are used for different content types. CDN access can be included with dedicated servers, while standalone access is also available.

The service operates in English. The ordering and account areas remain practical, although some fixed hardware configurations and detailed rate tables are older than the newer entry prices. A customized written quotation is therefore preferable for larger or long-term deployments.
