Oct, 2003 : MLB, Sun Partner to Build Interactive Web Site

📅 - MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM), the interactive media and Internet subsidiary of Major League Baseball, and Sun Microsystems (sun.com) have teamed up and developed an interactive Web site (mlb.com) for baseball fans that supports data and bandwidth intensive features and reached its first 35 million page view day on the first day of the playoffs, the companies said on Friday.

New features launched this year included live Internet broadcasts of full games, digital downloads of all playoff games, hour long live pre-game shows, and expanded broadband capabilities.
According to the companies, the site appeals to the demand for streamed live games, real-time statistics, fan forums and other interactive features.
MLB.com and the 30 individual team sites registered over 560 million page views for the entire postseason, five times higher than the 91 million in the same period in 2002, the companies reported.
Sun Microsystems first established its partnership with Major League Baseball in July 2001. Sun worked with MLBAM to architect and build a platform infrastructure based on Sun servers, storage, and software, including Java technology that could scale to support a wide variety of applications and high volume of visitors.
